Mikko Koskinen Contract Buyout Details - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps
2020-21 would be a little rough but it's not terrible.
Can't imagine there's been shorter. Not sure if im missing something obvious but would this be the shortest amount of time after signing a contract that a player has been bought out?

But if Holland does indeed have some sort of master plan to get them back into the postseason you'd have to think he'll need every inch of cap space available and an extra $3.8 mil would sure as hell help.
If they're aiming at Elliot level for a starter than this is all pointless anyway lol$3.8M is misleading though. You need to replace your starting goalie. So say you sign Brian Elliot for $2.25M, you're only really saving $1.5M this year. And less in coming years. And I'm not sure Elliot is any better than Koskinen at this point.
Just don't think there are any shortcuts available for the Oilers. Maybe entice someone to take Lucic with a good asset. It''l hurt to give up the 8th OA pick this year (for example) but it might be necessary.

Kenny Holland getting bold?!?
but, but, they already paid their $4.5 mill goalie.....
