The kid's been fucking miserable about going to Edmonton since day one. Remember his face at the lottery?

I wonder if things keep going like this Chiarelli may decide to start offloading the old first overalls and try to re-start around McDavid? He could still get a fuck ton of assets for Hall, RNH, Eberle and maybe even Yakupov. Or trade them all for magic beans like he did with Seguin. Either or.

I don't care who you throw in the mix on that team, it seems like a Leafs-ish situation where the core and the attitude of that core is really the crux of their issues. If the season keeps going that poorly (to the pleasure of us all) they're really going to have to look at that option.

remember, Sam Gagner was the start of the rebuild.
that was 2007.

The Ducks have scored one goal in three games this season and are ahead of the Oilers in the standings.

Does Staples even do the math before tweeting the above? The Oilers would have to clear out major cap space just to be able to acquire him. They have less than $5 million in cap space and Chara makes a little under $7 million.

/Besides, would Chara waive to go to Edmonton?

On another note, how could the Oilers be that close to the cap with that roster?

I'm sure the Isles would be willing to unload some more crappy defensemen for Taylor Hall.

On item 1, I think Boston is aware they're eating some serious salary if they move Chara. There might be 3 or 4 teams dumb enough to take him on at this point in his career, they're going to have to eat $2 mil/yr at the very least in order to convince someone to take a chance.

On item 2, no fucking chance. Even if Edmonton were in contention (ha) he has a wife, a kid in school, he's a registered Massachusetts real estate agent...I think he'd accept a trade, but not to the West and sure as shit not to Edmonton.

Oilers being proactive as I'm sure they don't want to see any jerseys on the ice for the home opener:
