If that's not bad enough, the fact that they left another coach twisting in the wind (just like Renney) shows just how arrogant and poorly run the Oilers are under the current regime.

Krueger & MacTavish were already talking about next seasons game plan and Krueger never felt that he would not be with the team this year.

Also good to see that the kids are learning no accountability for their performance on the ice - It's always the coach's fault in Edmonton.

Well; what's easier - and less expensive? Try & trade away half a team, or see if a new coach can get them to play up to their potential?

I know which one I'd try first.

Yikes.

I didn't know that. I've only been paying attention to the NHL for the past three seasons, and have not really followed the ins & outs of every trade, coaching change etc. for any team other than Minny (& Atlanta back in '10-'11).

Can I take it that they have a very impatient Owner &/or GM?

A little consistency might just go a long way, me thinks.

just reading about the way it shook down prior to the firing screams everything you need to know about the Oilers

Krueger was the one that asked MacT for an associate coach ... that he felt he needed the help of a solid veteran NHL coach who has been at the helm of a team before

that was an indictment of the current Oilers assistant coaches who Krueger didnt hire ... those assistants:

Kelly Buchberger & Steve Smith

aka Lowes bumbuddies

I actually like the hire of Eakins. The Oilers knew who they wanted to be their coach & didn't mess around while others had him on their short list. I consider this somewhat of a coup.

I think the Eakins hire could turn out to be okay, it's just the execution and timing of it (and the shoddy treatment of Krueger) that is so Oilers-esque. But hey, as long as the media/bloggers buy in, that's all that matters, amirite?

I am relieved they have started protecting his head before they let him out in public.

It's the Oilers, what did you expect? I remember when the Islanders acquired Hamrlik for Brewer & somebody else. I don't remember the exact trade. I do know it was at the draft. The look on Lowe's face was so smug it was amazing. He truly thought he pulled one over on Milbury in a HUGE way. All that mattered to Milbury was making the playoffs. The Hamrlik trade made sure that happened.

This is how the Oilers do business. It seems like Lowe believes he knows more than his peers. I know he has a bunch of rings, but that doesn't mean he's a good GM or whatever his actual title is at the moment. The press conference regarding the hiring of MacTavish spoke volumes. Was he conceited as a player as well or did all the winning go to his head?
