Hard to say what the biggest issue is, Torts or Gilis. I would think it's Torts because the Canucks are certainly not hurting for talent and the biggest problem they seem to have is players giving a shit.

I will respectfully disagree, I think the skilled players on the Canucks are past their best before date and the cupboards are looking okay, but still likely two to three years away from making a significant impact.

Then again, he's won before. Maybe Gillis is just getting him crybabies on the bench. And giving them contracts that are too big and too destructive.

With Trotz rumoured to be on the outs in Nashvegas, I would hold onto Gillis, buy out Torts and go after Trotz with both guns. He is a guy who seems to get a lot out of ANY player on his bench, not just "his type" of players.

But keep Gillis on a hella short leash.

i think this is way way off ... the try/effort level is there most every night ... they just have no clue on the ice ... every mistake they make is in their net this year ... guys are running around and look lost ... they havent taken to the system at all ... Ive never seen this formulation of the team give up so many odd man rushes as this year ... thats coaching

I dont think the Sedins are done ... theyre committed guys ... I think they are hurting physically

like Ferraro says ... you have a down season in your early to mid 30's and everyone thinks youre done ... not always the case

it goes back to the problem that has never ever been solved ... orgainizational depth that can produce offense

One thing that has to go is the Sedins blocking shots - Paying the price in the playoffs is one thing, but every night over a 82 game season is another thing entirely. Also, Kesler can't play 25 minutes a night, he needs to be under 20 to remain effective.

the sedins are the only ones who have bought into Torts system 100% and changed their games and look where it got them ... torts wanted them to block shots, they did ... theyre good swedes so they listen for the good of the team

they ended up getting physically killed playing big defensive zone minutes

its partially their fault because deep inside i think they wanted to show the league (and all their chicken shit detractors) that they could be all around players

I never wanted them to try to be Selke candidates ... its not their game for fuck sakes ... play to your strengths

Well the Aquilini's could say hey, "we're not firing the coach but you can come in and bring in players that will fits Torts system" - maybe they like Torts system and they just want a GM that will be able to bring in the right players - if that means trading the Sedin's then so be it

You are right that a new GM does like to hire his own coach, but looking at the situation in Buffalo, it could turn out to be like that when you consider the options that are/aren't out there in the coaching ranks + the money they'd have to pay to get rid of Torts

If the Aquilini's sell the team then I think you might see both guys gone, if they don't sell the team I think Gillis is gone - the only way I see Torts leaving is if the team is sold, imho

That would be a great strategy, cause what GM wouldn't love to take over a team where the coach is calling the shots on personnel decisions?

I would think that if a GM can't bring in his own coach he'd be a little pissed. If he can't bring in his own players he simply wouldn't take the job unless he's an idiot.

If you just listened to coaches and mainstream media guys (most of them team mouthpieces) around the league I swear you'd think there was a epidemic of guys just not trying out there. Just watch 24/7 again for some evidence of this... every Randy intermission speech can basically be boiled down to "try harder guys!!!!!!!!!"
