if you fire Gillis and keep Torts (because Torts is Aquilinis choice) and bring in a new GM ... doesnt a new GM usually want to hire his own coach ?????

Well the Aquilini's could say hey, "we're not firing the coach but you can come in and bring in players that will fits Torts system" - maybe they like Torts system and they just want a GM that will be able to bring in the right players - if that means trading the Sedin's then so be it

You are right that a new GM does like to hire his own coach, but looking at the situation in Buffalo, it could turn out to be like that when you consider the options that are/aren't out there in the coaching ranks + the money they'd have to pay to get rid of Torts

If the Aquilini's sell the team then I think you might see both guys gone, if they don't sell the team I think Gillis is gone - the only way I see Torts leaving is if the team is sold, imho

Yeah, that's usually the case - However, Gillis didn't replace AV when he took over for Dave Nonis.

i dont agree ... first ... the team being sold was just a rumour ... and this ...

Lebrun: The sense we all get is Aquilini wanted Torts a lot and management had to accept it

Lebrun on Torts: At the end of the day ownership may decide to give him one more shot but I get the sense that's not the case

/and if ownership gives Torts one more shot I think Gillis walks

apples to oranges ... at that time AV wasnt looked at as the cause of canucks missing the playoffs ... but this time Torts is looked at as a major cause

I agree that if they give Torts one more shot, Gillis will leave - that's why I said I don't think there's much of a chance they just fire Torts and that's it, especially when they really wanted him

Yeah, that's true - But man, that's not a cheap buyout for Frankie if both the coach and GM are turfed.

too many buyouts means Frankie cant replenish the basement canava (aka wine cellar)

As I said, I think the only way they're both gone is if the team were to be sold, because the new owner wouldn't really care about the money situation, they would want to start on their own terms with new people

Maybe getting a new coach will allow Gillis to go out and get more guys who can win based on talent and not on shot-blocking and some of the other traits that Torts wants from players?

What is going on with their scouting people? Are they going to get fired at some point or what?

Hard to say what the biggest issue is, Torts or Gilis. I would think it's Torts because the Canucks are certainly not hurting for talent and the biggest problem they seem to have is players giving a shit. It's pretty easy to see how playing for a guy like Torts would make guys give the fuck up.

Then again, he's won before. Maybe Gillis is just getting him crybabies on the bench. And giving them contracts that are too big and too destructive.

With Trotz rumoured to be on the outs in Nashvegas, I would hold onto Gillis, buy out Torts and go after Trotz with both guns. He is a guy who seems to get a lot out of ANY player on his bench, not just "his type" of players.

But keep Gillis on a hella short leash.

Booth has one year left on that contract?

if it means keeping him and sacking Gillis/Torts or both to get this team on a start to a rebuild then Im ok with it. I wish all could go but I cant see that much being paid out in one summer

it will be tough enough going to July 1st and overpaying for guys ... but what UFA wants to play for Torts at this point?

I don't know about Barry Trotz - he seems like a Torts type of coach when it comes to being more defensive oriented - not that they don't need to improve defensively but John Stevens would be a good coach for them, they could open some things up - they have some young players waiting in the wings like Bo Horvat, etc and having a coach like John Stevens might help those younger guys develop - the key is getting guys like Jensen, Matthias, etc etc to continue to develop - John Stevens did a nice job of developing Mike Richards and Jeff Carter and turning them into stars

They can still make trades theoretically - I'm sure they could still get plenty in return for Kesler - Edler might be more difficult but if they really want to get rid of some of the high priced contracts they can go for it

They should be getting younger anyways and that would mean getting rid of Torts and not going the route of FA

yah ... you hope that BOOTH steps it up in a contract year (and the surgeon that did his ankle did say it would be a 1 year recovery and hes playing better .... soooo????)

I have to hold by my BOOTH WILL SCORE 25 NEXT YEAR prediction since I BOOOKED it lol

Who knows maybe Booth cranks it up and you can trade him at next years deadline :noidea: lol

that was alledgedly Gillis's choice this past offseason and he is still available :noidea:

on Trotz ... he lives in Vernon in the offseason so he know the canucks ... I think Trotz is definitely a good coach .. I wouldnt label him strictly a defensive coach ... he coached the system around the players he had ... stud dmen and no offense ... this is the type of coach Gillis wants ... someone who can adapt the style to the personnel

Ah, forgot about Johnny.

I think the style of play is not as important as a coach who the players feel they can work with. Trotz is light years ahead of Torts in that.

Plus it seems the coaches that are available have a bit more quality than the GMs that are. Who is out there that has experience? McGuire? MacClean? Burkie? MILBURY?

See this is where maybe it would be good if the Aquilini's would just sell the team, seems like there's too much meddling going on - if not for all the meddling they might have gotten John Stevens

Not a whole lot: maybe Claude Noel? I'm not sure how much people around the league think of him
