Looks like Canucks have 2 210's
When calling out his teammates, most assumed — maybe because he said so — Daniel Sedin was talking about the young players, and, it seemed, specifically McCann and Virtanen.
The coach, known for being ultra positive last year, has been giving these two kids quite a bit of tough love of late.
He cut their minutes in one recent game, and said it was because of mistakes, while ambiguously suggesting those mistakes were both on the ice and off it.
The other day he opined maybe things had been going too well for Virtanen and he was taking it for granted.
He dropped this:
“I just think his habits have to get a little better.”
It’s not the only time “habits” or what McCann and Virtanen are doing between games has been called into question. The Sedins have hinted at this quite a few times.
Word has been circulating around the team for some time there is concern within the organization about the kids’ mindset, and if you want to be more inflammatory, you could call it “attitude.”
Now what does that mean?
Essentially, if kids feel they are NHL players, and they act like veterans when, in reality, they’re really not NHL players, it doesn’t go over very well.
Coaches and vets don’t tend to mind if five-year players are doing what I’d call “their own thing” between games.
But rookies?
