I just placed a bet on Corey Perry for Conn Smythe.

If he wins, Benning definitely needs to present the award

so this was basically made for him making the conference finals, because really the regular season he barely made the playoffs. I thought the votes were done in the regular season?

To be fair he did dump total scrub Max Domi for Sure Fire hall of famer Josh Anderson and his *checks notes* one more point. That was even BEFORE the regular season.

I anyone but Zito gets it, the thing is rigged.

By the way, do they take into account the number of fan Twitter rants calling for the GM to be fired into the voting?

I think Pierre would like a redo with that phrasing especially considering current events.

/That said, for a guy who prides himself on the background of players, that phrasing wasn't appropriate at the time he said it.

Do you think he would like to take that back?

So if Weber did retire, what does that cap recapture penalty look like? Or does it not apply as an injury retirement?

I'm not sure, but since Weber is from BC, you know the Canucks are going to be impacted in one way or another.

Edit: Nasty posted the details in the other thread and I'll copy them here...

"That deal, signed via offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers, was heavily front-loaded. There is $12M of actual cash remaining. Nashville, which matched and was where Weber played the next four years, would have a “cap recapture” penalty of slightly more than $4.9M per season through 2025-26 if the defenceman retires."

If he retired, montreal and nashville will be respectively fucked, but not as bad as before (they changed the rules last year).
He can LTIR it out if need be. Like Luongo could have, but he was paid enough to save Florida $1MM cash and fuck the Canucks for $3MM cap
Or he can miraculously heal in time for the playoffs next year.

The biggest winner (if you can even call it that) out of this new change may be the Nashville Predators, who were in danger of a potential ~$24.6MM cap charge if Shea Weber had retired just before the 2025-26 season. That number will now not eclipse the $7.86MM cap hit he carries, though that means it would be spread out over several years as the entire penalty must still be paid eventually.

*(this story from a year ago, so numbers have changed per Dash/Nasty)

If he retires early it is my understanding that the entire penalty is on Nashville.

If he accepts ltir to the end of his contract then it is my understanding that Luongo retired to spite the Canucks for fucking him over.. and I'm kinda ok with it.

I think Luongo did it because Florida promised him a high paying front office job.
Got him to the next step in his career.

Yep … his allegiance was to the panthers, his family was settled there and iirc he was gonna continue to get the salary he was owed on the remainder of his player contract (1.6, 1 & 1 shmill per season) as essentially a management trainee :noidea:

/but i do think a little bit of him was happy to stick it to frankie lol
