Figure to get something else in into the threads.

Who you got? Why I chose this subject? I was reading through the lateset power rankings from ESPN and read the side comment on Detroit that Stafford is in line for the "award"

So tell me, who you got?

I think Stafford will win it but I am in favor for our Alex. :cheer2:

Just for the fact that Smith was considered a bust by pretty much everybody. Stafford has been pretty much just been limited by injuries, his talent and potential was never in question. That's just my 2 cents.

Because people were chanting "we want Carr". The guy was wrote off for dead. Nobody thought he would ever do anything. Stafford was always thought to be good I he could just not get injured. Alex beat the lions. Alex is 13-3 this year. On a team that was crap the past 10 years and was supposed to be in the "suck for luck" sweepstake and that is the only reason why we brought Alex back in the first place. Alex far exceeded what anybody thought he ever could. That is why he wins.

pretty much my feeling on it. Alex has been in the bust label for years and finally breaks away from it and right now has his Niners in the playoffs at 13-3....

Stafford got to a good start on his own right since his rookie year but injuries derailed him. But he does have the top WR in the game right now though, so.... idk...

Stafford at 10-6 or Alex at 13-3....

I don't know if Alex wins this, but I do think his name belongs on the white board. Another name for the board IMO would be Elvis Dumervil.

With how the league is so stat driven today, I could see it going to stafford. But i feel alex deserves it just as much if not more then Stafford.

hmm, explain? :noidea:

I know he came off an injury, but didn't really make a huge impact on the level of the forementioned above IMO.

Yeah, Stafford did put up insane amount of TDs through the air and deserves pro bowl to be frank, but where Alex came from, It would peev me off to see it go unnotice.

If Alex leads the team to the super bowl, he'll still won't get any respect for his accomplishment.

(disclaimer: please do not bran me as a alex lover lol)

Comeback player is kind of hard to pick. Is it a guy who was good then got hurt or had a bad season then got back to his good ways?? If that's the case you can't pick Alex Smith, Stafford, or Reggie Bush (who should at least get a look) because they haven't had really good seasons to go back to. Stafford is hands down the breakout star of the year though.

If you look at the history of the award it is typically given to guys coming off a bad season, injury (or prison) returning to form. To be honest I'm not sure this applies to anybody this year. Next year there will be a few guys who could get it though. Manning, Chris Johnson, Beason, possibly Peterson.

I think he played at a fairly high level for someone who missed an entire season and when you look at the past 10 winners, missing the entire or most of the season seems to be a common denominator.

Going back 10 years I think Jon Kitna makes perhaps the best case for Alex Smith.

I'm not saying Dumervil will win, but I'm pretty sure his name will be in the mix.

True, which means Burress will probably get some consideration as well.

Are you guys fucking kidding me? Alex Smith over Stafford? Stafford is coming off of two season ending shoulder injuries only to be the 4th QB EVER to throw for 5,000 yards. He has nearly tripled Smith's passing TDs and has led Detroit to their first 10-win season since 1995 with no semblance of a running game and a suspect defense.

As a matter of fact I'd take Victor Cruz or Steve Smith as comeback players of the year before I'd take Smith.

Didn't know any of them were considered one of the bigger bust of all time only to lead a team to a 13-3 record and the second seed in the playoffs. Stafford is a very good QB and I would love him to be on our team, but he never heard "we want Carr" after every incompletion. He never dealt with having a new OC every year. He was wrote off for dead. Alex was. And now Alex has lead this team into the playoffs with a 13-3 record. Throw all the stats out you want. Alex came back for more. That is what this award is about. Not MVP.

ah yes Steve smith, loved having him on my FF team lol. He will be greatly considered and has a good chance. I hear ya about Stafford, good points. Cruz? I never heard his name before this season to be honest.

Good points overall though, quick qestion though. Do you think Smith's name shouldnt even be mentioned in it then? Just curious?

What has Mathew Stafford proven in his first to seasons to be a "comeback" player of the year? It's like Tall Glass of water was saying, they haven't had a prior great season to come back from. I like your Steve Smith argument, but Victor Cruz, Stafford, Alex Smith, and Reggie Bush shouldn't qualify, but they should all be considerations for Breakout player of the year.
