$170 million can buy you a lot and every upgrade helps, but start putting a quality product on the field and recruits will come. UW has been in the top 20 of recruiting in recent years despite having had a 90 year old stadium. Sure, some in recent classes may have been influenced by the upgrades that were coming, but having lavish facilities isn't as important as putting out a good product in an environment the kids can associate with.
A new stadium/facilities there could drag a few more in from neighboring states and could help turn the tide. Husky stadium was a $280 million upgrade, but they spent a lot on amenities for the fans more so than the facilities. The stadium now has luxury suits, club decks with lounges and full restaurants in them, a patio deck area for watching the game, and other things that won't help get you kids, but will help your bottom line down the road.
With all of this TV revenue coming in you kind of have to keep up with the arms race to some extent. Again, no one needs to try and match bring in rare Brazilian bear skin this or rare African hard wood that, just get some decent and modern facilities and get the right coach. The rest will come. Colorado was one a top program and no reason to believe they couldn't be again.
