I think we have some guys in our secondary that are about to explode. On the other hand, DT is an extremely shallow position for us. We have elite talent basically in the starting positions and very little behind that. So that could be very iffy, especially if they plan to rotate guys in or anyone gets injured. So I could see an elite secondary be wasted as we can't stop the run up front unless we develop some under ranked guys there.

Did they intentionally not use the year 2020 in case there is no season?

Man I guess they are banking on our new coaching hires really doing the job. We were fucking terrible last year.

last year was a perfect storm of mess ups that defined our no show defense. Between our MASH unit secondary, and Todd Orlando's stubbornness to use our best rusher as a bonafide free safety to cover slot recievers.. complete crap.

But I think this will end up being a top 10 defense in 2020. I refuse to believe that a team can suffer the amount of injuries Texas endured last season..twice in a row.

jalen Green proved that he is a CB1 and Jamsion is a solid CB2. Sterns and Foster at safety or nickle..mixed in with Chris Brown is a salty bunch. There's plenty of talent in the two deep as well with Cook, Adimora, Owens, Thompson, Watson, Boyce, etc.

The DL is will be a salty group as well with both Coburn and Sweat/Ojomo anchoring side by side in the interior line with Ossai in the Jack position. I'm assuming it's going to be TQ, Jones or Bimage on the other side at DE.

Weakest group to me is by far the LB corps. Mitchell will have to continue to grow and be the leader. Tilman is coming off injury as is Gbenda. Have no clue if Adeoye will ever get it figured out but he's entering his 3rd season. Time to shine.

Orlando was all about scheme instead of individual improvement. We saw the big difference when Naivar put the players in position in the Alamo bowl. Todd was too invested in his scheme to ever adapt it to the individual player once everyone began to miss heavy time being banged up. #HookEm

I'm just skeptical it's a one year rebuild. Our players consistently played well with lots of time to prepare for an opponent in bowl games. Even under Orlando. As soon as big 12 play starts in earnest the offensive play callers in this conference take advantage of our lack of fundamentals and torch us. I want to see good fundamental defense without all the fancy schemes and just let our guys athleticism shine.

For example, Malcolm Roach was a complete non factor under Orlando and that dude ran a 4.8 forty with great get off times at 300 lbs. He's a coaches son who was always talked about as the guy most likely to go into coaching after done playing. How did a guy like that do jack shit at Texas?

We got out coached and didn't teach fundamental defense. That's how. I hope you are correct but I feel like this might take more than a year to get fixed.

Roach showed so much promise as a true freshman at DE.. Orlando goofed that up for two seasons as a lb.. Then put him back at DE but lining him inside the OT.. Smh ‍♂️
