... or as Colby wonders ... "why didn't I have those spurs removed when I underwent the elbow surgery?"

Basically the same thing I said, the implication being that it was probably something he should've taken care of while he was going to be out anyway, especially since he's already had problems with it

That being said, maybe he didn't want to be rehabbing 2 parts of his body at the same time as the do impact each other

You were right in what you said originally ... but you know he's questioning his decision now if he had it to do over. Maybe rehabbing both elbow and hip would have been tough ... but Colby would have done it to get back on the mound.

Considering how long it took him to get back from just the elbow, doing both at the same time probably would have surely kept him out the whole year,

I'm betting he was hedging his bets that his hip would be "good enough" if the elbow came back quickly

I think with how long it took the elbow to rebound, he decided he wouldn't be much use to anyone right now and decided to go ahead and take care of the hip as well

Frankly, I'm kind of glad he isn't going to come back this year. I don't think he could have helped the club much this year just jumping back in mid-season.

I think he might be done overall too, he is close to that age.

As for Harrison, I kind of hope he doesn't make it back this year either. The rotation is ok now as it is and in the playoffs I would be more confident in pitching Perez than Harrison anyhow this year.

Ogando may be the chink in the armor for the rotation going forward. If Harrison is healthy and very effective and is able to get a full month under his belt I want him in our rotation if we make it to the playoffs.

Very possibly the scenario. Thinking about it now as much as we would like to have Colby getting ready to pitch this year ... if he isn't 100% of what he's got had he come back now it might have affected whether he got an offer for 2014.

Now reading what JD says ... TEX is willing to have him back in 2014 after this setback which would be in time for spring training. So actually his chances of getting a rotation spot out of camp are improved over what might have happened trying to get into the rotation at the end of this year.

Come playoff time, you should rather have a a healthy and effective Harrison over Ogando or Perez anytime, the question is, will that be the Harrison we are getting at some point?
