I climbed this mountain once (Septimus; Vancouver Island). It was a seven hour hike, just to get to the base; then 2 more hours straight uphill to get to the lake; then another 3 hours to the summit.

how long did it take?

last time I tried to climb it I was hungover. I got half way and had this backpack that turned into a chair. at the halfway point I pulled out the chair and this cute blonde came up to me and said "hey that is a really cool....."

I fucking threw up right at her feet. just couldn't hold it. holy fuck it was classic. Im laughing out loud now typing this. those mcdonalds breakfast burritos are not pretty coming up anyway she didn't give me her number lol

lol. great story. well, not for her...
took me about 2 hrs. we stopped and looked around alot, but I was beat. we were passed by EVERYBODY. including a couple of women carrying their kids in backpacks :L
(for context to anyone else, Rick Rypien set the canucks prospect mark at 34 minutes)

another good pic of the trail

Johnston Canyon in Banff National Park is a fairly easy climb with some pretty cool scenery.

i climbed cyprus bowl up one side then back down and up the other side. I also climbed Cypress. I was a regular climber in almost any mountain I could in Alberta around Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise and Kananaskis. I actually quite miss it now.

Never did the Grouse mountain climb. I used to hike up Cypress bowl once in a while.

One of the highest peaks on the Island -- Mount Albert Edward, is pretty much a cakewalk hike. You actually get close to 7,000 feet. Probably about all I do these days.

We're so sorry, Albert Edward, but we haven't hiked a bloody mile all day...

The highest I've ever climbed was to the top of Bascom Hill, and I intend to keep it that way.

I need sleep, darn it!

I've been useless today, you know, aside from the whole figuring out why the laser didn't work thing, and the whole opening the chamber, cleaning the nozzle, replacing the o-ring, putting the nozzle back in, closing and pumping down the chamber, cleaning the sample holder, and pumping argon through the lines thing. And now the whole ordering the laser curtains thing, and the whole looking for errors in the code thing.

The scary part is that is actually very near the exact procedure you use to clean a McDonald's ice cream machine. Maybe a little less argon.

But only maybe.

Except that we have a 950 V repeller plate right next to our nozzle.

And it operates at high vacuum.

And it cost close to $1 million, so, you know, screwing up is pricey.

:p
