Yeah, he did threaten to kill me and the previous owner of this site said he was going to follow-up with law enforcement (I don't know if he ever did or it was just a scare tactic). Not that anybody cares but technically it’s a credit not a deduction.

For example, if you pay 20% taxes, make $100 and get a 20% deduction for yer kids, you still pay $16 in tax on the taxable $80.

With a credit, your tax is $20 as 20% of $100 is $20 but the child tax credit is a for dollar reduction in tax so a $20 credit yields no tax. Refundable credits can even get you paid above what you owed in taxes. The moral of the story is credits almost always are better than deductions.
