I haven't seen another thread about Lattimer, so I thought I would get one going to see what everyone's thoughts are. I thought this kid showed some crazy athleticism, great hands and speed in his rookie camp last year. It has been widely reported that his sophomore campaign would be his coming out party, especially after getting some time with Manning down at Duke in the off season. So far through preseason, he hasn't really done much. At this point, it seems like Peyton has much better chemistry with Norwood. I was really hoping that the Broncos had a real, long-term weapon in Lattimer but now I'm not so sure. Am I concerned prematurely?

I don't think it is quite time to hit the panic button. We are in year two and all we have seen is preseason so far with him. He had a terrible drop in this last game where he should have had a touchdown but otherwise nothing he has really done says good or bad. I have read quite a few favorable reports that he has done really well in camp this year so I think he still has a chance even this year to show something great. To me up to this point in the preseason we haven't even come close to seeing what this offense is actually going to do once the season shows up. I have heard many ex-players laughing when talking about people hitting the panic button on what the Broncos have shown on offense. They have said that at most we have shown about 2% of our playbook and what we want to do on offense. Others have said the plays the Broncos have run are all ones that they won't run during the season. So again I think we need to have some patience with this offense and with Latimer to see what they really want to do. Now if we get into the season and instead of Latimer coming in on 3-wide sets we see Norwood or whoever else makes it at WR then yes it might be the time to start thinking he is not living up to his potential and why we traded up to get him.

So far it does seem though with Elway it is that 2nd and 3rd round in the draft that he somewhat struggles with. While most of them haven't been terrible picks we also haven't seen any from that range step up and become great. 1st round and 4th round and beyond though Elway has shown that ability to find those type of players.

I just think he's shown some jitters in the preseason. More than likely because he knows there is going to be far more expected from, and maybe it's gotten into his head a bit. That dropped TD on the slant from Manning on Saturday just looked like he looked up field a little too quick to get to the EZ, but that happens to everybody.

I think once we get into the regular season he settle in and contribute. I'm not so sure he's going to put up the numbers that some people are suggesting, and with a rising Norwood coming into the mix, he may get less touches than originally projected.

Good reply, CD. Just like any fan, I sometimes catch myself having concern over meaningless preseason performances. I guess what spurred my comments was a conversation that a couple of hosts were having on sports talk radio here in Denver. They were claiming that inside sources reported that Manning was frustrated with Lattimer and even shared a story about Manning talking to Lattimer directly on the bus to Houston and Lattimer was staring at his smartphone the whole time. Needless to say, the reports were that Manning was quite annoyed. Who knows if any of it is accurate anyway. At this point, I guess we'll all find out what we have in Lattimer in the next 3-4 weeks.

Makes perfect sense, Doc.

Oh I wouldn't doubt that something like this happened. I do know that there were some frustrations with him last year and the work that he put in. Many thought that he just thought he was automatically going to be great and when he wasn't he just quit. So far I have heard he has had a better attitude going into this season so going to have to see if that is true or not. I'm just one that I am not ready to give up too quickly. We are seeing how with Osweiler and Hillman that the 2012 draft maybe wasn't as terrible as many of us thought. Osweiler after this year and Hillman this year could be huge boosts to this team.

I could be way off on this but I think Lat has some maturity issues. I think he worked his butt off in off-season and training camp and with 2 decent gsm heading into wk 3 he might just of gotten a tad cocky and figured he`s got this now and as a result it`s affected his work ethic and focus. Some mature faster than others and maybe Cody needs to be given another "reality" ck by his peers to get refocused. His efforts lask wknd seemed to reek slack effort and complacency to me. Nothing is a given son and you need to put in the work each and every day if you want to be great.

He dropped more passes this preseason than he reportedly did his whole career at Indiana. Count me as disappointed with Cody this preseason. Contrast the story above with that of Jordan Norwood -and you know who I root for.

I still have high hopes. It wasn't that long ago that there was an expectation that year three was the magic year for WRs to really click. I guess in this age of instant expectations, we aren't going to be as patient. ;)

It's likely it will be next year that he blossoms as I took him in one of my two drafts so far. That means for sure he won't do much this year.

I'm not going to complain much because I really like Norwood, and of all the WRs this preseason - with Sanders out, DT rusty and Latimer a bit disappointing - that allowed Norwood to really stand out .. He's a great kid, smart, articulate and on-the -ball ...

I think when we see Latimer, for example, making that devastating block last preseason in which he knocked out a 9er defender, or the photo of him leaping to make that classic one-handed grab in camp, it is very easy to think he'll make the transition seamlessly .....

Now, with that said - and I don't mean to come off as critical - when I see Latimer interviewed, he does not come across as the brightest bulb ...

I though last year it was Fox's apprehension ( or perhaps Manning's ) due to the fact that Latimer was a rookie ......... I'm thinking now that Latimer might just be a slow learner

Latimer will have a great opportunity in the Kubiak offense - to make a name for himself. He is perfect for it - athletic - great blocker - good hands.

True Mingo ...I would also add The staff was force feeding the Football to DT for a reason so Latimer probably got over looked some ....then what balls he dropped that is easy he is trying to hard we need to get him a game were we feed him the ball and get him feeling better is all ..

Yes- Crash - I hope Latimer's drops were of the trying too hard to impress variety - and will settle down.

I think Lattimer is 5th string right now behind Norwood (I think Norwood sat) and Caldwell (produced last night) since he played last night. Disappointing to say the least at this point given the awesome WR's from 2014

I agree Norwood is ahead at 3 and Caldwell at 4.

this guy is off the charts athletic I don't get him at all at this point ... He really must struggle with routs ? I really don't know so don't quote on anything Lattimer'''

There has been 100s of players that have done way more than him in year two with a hell of a lot less talent .. this guy better get a light turned on and soon ...

Taylor IMO is more talented at this point .

My new theory is - Cody Lattimer is lacking in confidence - as soon as me makes some big catches - he will build his confidence and he will be fine. Indiana University is really not a athlete mill - more likely Lattimer has a kind of stage fright.

He's gotta be on the shit list because he's the #5 receiver today and still looks lost.
