According to Sam McKewon, Scott Frost said that we will be signing anywhere between 24-27 prospects in this class, which makes more sense than the 22-23 I had been working with given the amount of offers going out in recent weeks. But there's one week till signing day... so what's the Big Board look like? Have a Gander:
QB
Matthew Tago (3-Star) [Lancaster, CA] - Tago is the only remaining QB target on the board and could make the switch to OLB on defense if QB doesn't work out. Frost and Co look like they would like 2 QBs in this class and Tago fits the bill. He visited last weekend and is set to decide this Saturday at 5:00pm (PST). Other Players: Utah and Oregon State
RB
Maurice Washington (4-Star, RB) [Cedar Hill, TX] - Washington's recruitment has been anything but ordinary. He was pretty lightly recruited until he won MVP at the Under-Armour All-America game in January when his recruitment blew up. Nebraska had already been in on him but Ole Miss, Ohio State, Tennessee and Arizona State came calling shortly after. Washington has twice been slated to visit Nebraska and has had to move the visit twice as questions about his ability to qualify mounted. Nebraska found out a week ago that he SHOULD qualify and set up a visit for the final weekend. Ohio State fell off after Coombs left to go to the Titans. It's down to Nebraska and ASU currently. Other Players: ASU
WR
Andre Hunt (3-Star, WR) [Lancaster, CA] - Hunt is would be one of the faster players in Nebraska's class if he ended up signing with the Huskers. Questions about his ability to consistently catch the ball are serious (if he had good hands he'd be a high 4-star) but Nebraska's staff thinks they can work on that with him. The former USC commit is down to three and Nebraska wouldn't mind taking one last WR for the class if they can get him. He visits this weekend as well. Other Players: Oregon State, San Diego State
John Jackson (3-Star, WR) [Gardena, CA] - While no visit has been set up with Jackson of yet, he is high on Nebraska if there is a spot for him. Nebraska needs to feel good about Hunt to not bring Jackson in. So far no visit has been set up but he could be a last minute add depending on how the in-home goes with Hunt this week.
OT
Jarrett Bell (3-Star, OT) [Norco, CA] - Bell was once considered a heavy Nebraska lean, then he visited Arizona State. Frost and Co went in home last week and couldn't get him to commit. Since then it seems to have been radio silence from Bell's end and Nebraska isn't taking any chances. The Huskers are still in on Bell and pushing for a commitment but this might play out till signing day. Other Playares: ASU
Willie Canty Jr (3-Star, OT) [Belle Glade, FL] - Canty is fresh off a visit to Louisville that he loved but knows the Nebraska staff from when they were recruiting him to UCF. While Nebraska would like Bell to be the OT in this class, Canty is the back up that is visiting this weekend. Given the whirlwind Bell has taken the coaches on I fully expect Canty to have the green light to commit and take Bell's place if he would like. Other Players: Louisville, UCF
Jalan Robinson (3-Star, OT) [Lawrence, KS] - Nebraska offered Robinson on Tuesday if this past week and he will be visiting unofficially midweek. I think Robinson is the third option here but he also has a visit to Mississippi State this next weekend as well so the long play might be difficult to maintain here. Nebraska wants Bell, then Canty, then Robinson. I fully expect them to get one of the three but make no mistake if it's Robinson, he was the third choice. Other Players: Kansas and Mississippi State
NT
Otito Ogbonnia (3-Star, NT) [Katy, TX] - In a bit of a twist Nebraska is getting a visit from this late riser at NT. at 6'3" 300 pounds he certainly looks the part and Nebraska's status with Mapieu is certainly up for grabs. The Huskers would like a NT in this class but won't take one just to take one. Looks like it's Otito or nobody at this point. Other Players: Tennessee and Ole Miss and UCLA
OLB
Javontae Jean-Baptiste (4-Star, OLB) [Oradell, NJ] - One of the more intriguing recruiting stories to follow for the past month and leading up to signing day Nebraska has made a big move for Jean-Baptiste. Ohio State is all but out of it and the Huskers have a very strong relationship with the family going back to their days at UCF. The draw to stay closer to home to go to Va Tech could be big and Texas A&M has come calling late. Nebraska is in the driver's seat here but they will need to hold off others. Other Players: OSU, Va Tech and Texas A&M
Caleb Tannor (4-Star, OLB) [Lithonia, GA] - Auburn is in the driver's seat here and Nebraska has put most if not all of their eggs in the JJB basket at this point.
CB
Taiyon Palmer (4-Star, CB) [Lawrenceville, GA] - Palmer has had a very similar experience to Maurice Washington after the early signing period came and went. He went from relative unknown that was formerly committed to Duke and visiting Vandy to highly coveted. Receiving offers from Nebraska, NC State, Clemson and Alabama. The dust has settled a bit here thought and Nebraska and NC State lead the pack. Ultimately it looks like the highly coveted CB will stay closer to home and go with NC State. Other Players: NC State, Clemson, Alabama
Ken Montgomery Jr. (4-Star, CB) [Tampa, FL] - A late add tot he visit list for this weekend is Montgomery and if Nebraska can't get Palmer he would be a heck of a consolation prize. Other Players: Louisville, Maryland
Cam Taylor (3-Star, ATH) [Montgomery, AL] - Taylor visited last weekend and fell in love with Nebraska. He says he will be announcing on signing day between Nebraska and Missouri but he cancelled his Missouri visit for this next weekend. All signs point to N on this one and I wouldn't be surprised if Nebraska went with 2 out of this group if they get the right two. Other Players: Missouri
Joseph Norwood (3-Star, ATH) [Chattanooga, TN] - Norwood has yet to receive an offer but the plan is to bring him in on an OV this weekend anyway. Seems like Norwood is coming just in case Nebraska miss out on two of the top three. Nebraska apparently wants two more defensive backs in this class. Other Players: Tennessee
