Yeah, Joe Reedy has been posting that it wasn't even close for a few days now, so I expected it.

At this point, I sort of agree. If you won't come out and support a winning team, then why bother winning?

It started as showing Mike Brown that they wouldn't support his crappy efforts to build a team, but now that they're winning, I'm not sure. I wish I had the funds to get to a game this year.

We even talked about it on this board. Just starting 6-2 wouldn't be enough. People weren't oblivious of the easy schedule. If they really wanted to see a change, they needed to win at the very least 1 of the last 2. They weren't able to do it, so people are still going to be skeptical. Can't blame 'em.

2 of you goofs said you couldn't afford it while bitching about people not attending.

Thanks for the laugh.

I think there's a few things in play here....

1). People genuinely like this years team and I think are optimistic. However, Mike Brown has been such an unlikeable miser that people have a hard time forking over their hard earned to the guy in spite of their approval of this years product.

2). It is expensive and people are much more frugal in this economy (even people that have money to spend are more thrifty with it).

3). There are people like me who would actually prefer to watch the game on TV at home or at a bar rather than go down to PBS. Since it's blacked out I might go down to PBS..more than likely I'll find a stream to watch it.

It's infinitely more enjoyable to watch a football game on tv than it is in person.

Exactly. I love how people bash others for not going to a game causing a black-out, but their sorry butts are not in the seats, either.

no doubt. NFL football on TV is one of life's simple pleasures. High def + red zone has just made it that much better. Going to PBS you gotta pay for overpriced, watered down swill, there is a high jerkoff ratio of fans, traffic and aprking sucke and you cant see anything (you gotta crane your neck to check out the replay on the mega pixeled jumbo tron). Plus, they play that 'stop the rock' song before every kickoff which I hate. I do kinda like that goofy video before the games where they show the tiger prowling around then he scratches the opponents flag. It's awesomely bad.

How pathetic are the Bengals.

Announcing the game will be blacked out a full 3 days before they're required to sellout the stadium in an attempt to get people to buy tickets so they can watch the games.

Newsflash! YOU have to WIN the fans back! Quit trying to trick fans into buying tickets. Keep the threats of a blackout to yourself and PROVE that you do actually care about winning and not only lining your pockets. Instead, why don't YOU buy up the remaining tickets Thursday and give them away as a show to fans that, 'hey, we're finally starting to turn things around on the field, AND we're willing to do everything we can to give the fans the best experience both at the stadium and at home...allow us to show you!'

My guess is there are fewer season ticket holders as well. It used to be that many companies would offer season tickets as a bonus prize in a drawing for giving to the united way, or even as a perk or even luxury boxes to entertain potential customers. The economy has soured that most businesses are just trying to make a bottom line without laying more people off. I know folks that would go to a few games a year if they only made what they did a few years ago at their old jobs, before they got laid off and had to work their way up at walmart or kroger. Which still doesn't pay a good deal, but they get the benefits package. The area just doesn't have the growing base you would expect from a major metropolis area anymore. In my case, I generally used to find myself to the stadium once a year or so, that all changed when I became a family man, but I would guess an annual trip will become a tradition when the kids are old enough to avoid trouble. unless I just take a break and go myself.

While I agree with Rey in principle I think they have to be cautious about discounting or giving tickets away to just some fans. I think the argument from a business side is that it may allienate your paying customers. You'll have a contigent that is the most loyal that paid face value for their ticket thinking 'hey, what the fuck? I coulda just waited and got a ticket for free'. You could ease that by giving those folks a price break or some deal on their next purchase. What I think what would be a good gesture by the Bengals woudl be to donate the tickets to a cause that anyone with a pulse could get behind (i.e. vets and their families, Big Brothers Big Sisters) etc which would also start to ease that anomosity that the public has towards Mike Brown and begin to overhaul his image. I would also think that the Bengals are loising a ton of advertising revenue by not having the game air (those are prime spots)

I think the local station is losing a ton of coin too. That's why they've bought up tickets in the past.

After last season I swore that I would never attend another game unless the Bengals put a product on the field that was worth caring about. Well, whether by fluke or otherwise, the Bengals management has managed to do this. I went to the Steelers game and plan to go this week. If the Bengals continue to play well I may go to the remainder. It sure as hell beats trying to watch the game on some crappy Internet feed that often gets cut off before the end of the game. While there are hassles to attend game I don't think watching on tv comes close to matching the game day experience of tailgating with friends and trying to cheer your team to victory. You are part of the game as opposed to some detached observer. Bring in your own top shelf booze and that issue is covered. Who Dey!
