Just based on those two pics I'm gonna say clean. Hits shoulder first and keeps the elbow down.

It was clean, the only reason he got the head was because it was the follow through, but he started shoulder to shoulder - I was surprised they gave him a match

from pics it looks like 'principle point of contact' = shoulder, but who knows.

Those pics make it look worse than it was IMO. Sounds weird to say, but that second pic looks kinda nasty. I was shocked they called a match penalty.

Obviously very subjective here, but I don't think the intent was very nice..

Having just seen the video that wasn't even a minor, to be fair.

I was thinking about that during the game - they would definitely rescind that after the game once they take a look at it

No, shoulder hits the head at the initial point of impact. Plus it's on one of the league's superstars. 3 game suspension.

Clean hit, but the match penalty really had no impact on the game as the Flyers did not score on the resulting power play and it was cut short via a make-up call on Simmonds anyway. Regardless, the final score doesn't begin to show how badly the Oil got whipped in this game. Their team defense is shockingly awful. Dubnyk even played well and still gave up four.

The second pic makes the hit look a lot worse than it actually was in live video form.
