I don't understand IBB'ing Winkler with 2 outs and a runner on 1st to get to Puig with 2 on.....and then he ends up being HBP to load them up......but the Mets challenge the HBP and they win the challenge....so Puig K's to end it.

Meanwhile Robinson Cano is laughing his ass off somewhere.

Digging holes early, falling behind the 8 ball, then mounting another nice comeback only to lose another winnable game late are the ones that will haunt months from now and creep up and bite later this season.

LHP Jason Vargas (1-1) goes for New York in the 2nd game of the series after lowering his ERA from 14.21 to 7.20 in his last two starts by allowing two runs over 8 2/3 innings in a no-decision at St. Louis and a loss to Philadelphia.
RHP Luis Castillo (3-1), who starts Tuesday for Cincinnati, is 6-2 with a 1.18 ERA since last September.

Keuchel hoping to build value on short-term deal

Where do Mets stand on Keuchel?

April 24: With Jason Vargas struggling and Jacob deGrom on the injured list due to right elbow soreness, the Mets are in need of some rotation depth.
In place of deGrom on Saturday night, Chris Flexen allowed five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings, bumping his career ERA to 8.59 in 19 games (11 starts).

The Mets are an obvious fit for Keuchel, who remains unsigned. While MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal reported Saturday on FOX Sports that New York was much more likely to sign Gio Gonzalez than Keuchel, it's possible that the club could more strongly consider Keuchel with Gonzalez now off the market, having agreed to a one-year deal with the Brewers.

The Mets could also look to sign Craig Kimbrel, which would allow them to move Seth Lugo to the rotation.

However, Rosenthal notes that the club would only be open to doing so if Kimbrel is willing to pitch in different roles rather than just the ninth inning, as it has Edwin Diaz locked in as the closer. It’s unclear if Kimbrel would be amenable to that after spending the past eight seasons getting the final three outs.
