Why do you keep talking only about his last ten starts? He has 14 starts. Not 10.
Rock's only looking at Sale's last ten because he's not cherry picking.

dont bother. today i was told k's are no good, even tho its the ultimate way to prevent a base runner.Because his velocity was down earlier in the season and he was getting fewer whiffs. now he's throwing harder and striking everyone out. This isn't a hard thing to grasp.
do you work in a field of science that uses statistical validation?Rock's only looking at Sale's last ten because he's not cherry picking.
one last time. its a valid sample size. in science, 30 = validation. since he only starts 30-35, im using %, which is statistically valid.
his last 10 starts is approx 30% of his season total barring injury.
For all those that think 10 starts is too small a sample, how can you take 4 starts as a valid sample?
"hes been arguably the best in the game" vs "hes been arguably one of the best in the game" is the same statement.
its grouping. both being arguable vs a group of peers.

are you just looking for a way to make Chris Sale look as good as you can?
I haven't ready anybody saying that.

I do.
Just checked. He made 7 starts last year after the all star game.
My memory served well.
who said it wasnt? and whats makes that first 4 any more important than his last 10? thats how trends work, but i felt ive said that 10 times now. maybe i need a crayon.10 is a valid sample size, but 14 isn't?
I quit drinking in 79
You stated how his velocity was down, how he must be damaged goods, based on the 1st 4 games of the year. Pitchers are not allowed slow starts? His YTD stats are a reflection of how well he has pitched to overcome that slow start. Bottom line to me is that Sale is an elite pitcher with 2nd tier star power. He doesn't start the AS because Verlander and Ordizzi have been better YTD

Yeah, but I'm sure the Red Sox front office is not regretting the trade at all. He's not a CY caliber pitcher because he doesn't have the durability, but when he's healthy and rested, he's elite. Hardly "damaged goods."
I was touching on this earlier today. In Sale's case, last night it would have been better for him to go 8 or 9 IP rather than get double digits Ks, right?
Heavy strikeout guys throw a lot of pitches. I mentioned Randy Johnson's comments about how he extended his career by pitching to fly ball outs to keep his pitch counts down.
A guy like Sale who gets handled with kid gloves could probably do himself a service by learning to do that. He could get more mileage out of his starts. On a team with a terrible bullpen, that feels like it could make a difference to his ballclub.
no, i work in thermal flux and theory in materials sciences tho. most of my work ends up space. i do a lot of TVAC testing for space companies. If your field of science is "throw out the data that tells a bad story and keep the stuff that tells a good story" then I think you might be a good fit on President Trump's team.
