Phillips is a UFA, so if the Sens are selling expect him to be a rental.

He has been bad this year, but playing beside a lazy Gonchar for most of the year hasn't helped. Phillips is still a competitor and he isn't done as a player. Once he gets his confidence back, he'll be a top 10 shutdown guy again in short order. I'd like to see him in a Sens uniform for at least next year inorder to mentor guys like Cowen, Wiercioch, Gryba or any other young defensive D-men that make the team. If he's moved a 2nd rounder would be reasonable, IMO. I can see a 3rd, but also potentially a late first rounder for teams looking to get over the top.

As for Fisher he has two more years left after this. The return on him will be different. He is still an excellent 2-way center. His cap hit of $4.2M is a bit heavy, but not that much. If he is moved I'd expect a prospect who is a roster player (some money has to probably come back) and maybe a 2nd to 6th round pick.

Difficult times because these guys have been great for the organization and are two of the classiest guys in the league. True character, which might oddly enough make them easier to trade.

Fisher has a NTC, for what it's worth.

Anyone know what Phillips hit would be by the deadline? Just curious.

Probably a little over a million or so. I don't know exactly what it would be but somewhere between 1 and 1.5 million.

Yeah, it kind of makes sense that these 2 guys would be the guys that are being shopped and other teams are showing interest. They'll help playoff teams immensely I would think. And at this point, if a team makes a really good offer for either guy then Murray shouldn't refuse. Nobody on the current roster except for Karlsson and Alfie should be absolutely safe right now as far as I'm concerned.

Kovalev? No, he'll probably stay here until his contract expires. I could see a team go after Ruutu though. He's fairly cheap and he's a UFA.

I'd want the Pens to get Phillips if for no other reason than to not have to face him. Not gonna happen though.

Blob is talking about the Sens on NHL Live now. Kept it basic about moving veterans, but is saying that Murray should either be let go or extended, because being on his last year, he should "have the keys to the future" if he's only here for a short while longer.

I'm a big fan of Mike Fisher (and Carrie Underwood). Besides, Calgary is Canada's home of country music. Sounds like a great fit to me.

Yeah, I do remember seeing that somewhere on the web. Probably on twitter somewhere...it does make sense. Phillips, as noted in here, is on his last year, and that makes a big difference. I feel like they may wait a bit though, just to make sure they're sellers this season.

Well, did some minor research, and found out that CapGeek is more awesome than I ever thought. You can go on your teams tab and pick a day and there's a listing that says "Max Acquisition Space" for the number you can take on for deadline day. Pens have space for $4,572,556.

Murray has been apparently trying to make a few moves for awhile now. What's taking him so long??

Murray keeps saying that nobody wants to make a trade with him unless it's dollar for dollar. So in other words, a lateral move and that doesn't make much sense for the Sens right now.

I pretty much agree but I would bet you that Tim Murray will take over after this year anyway. He's the assistant GM if you're wondering and Murray's nephew.

If that's not the plan then I do think Bryan Murray needs to be let go and somebody new needs to be brought in immediately.

I don't remember but if I'm Sens management then Fisher should be available. Pretty much everybody should be available at this point. This core needs a shake up and badly.

Interesting blog here by Steve Simmonds from the Toronto Sun.

Bryan Murray on last legs in Ottawa The Simmons Sports Zone

It pretty much says that Murray tried to fire Clouston about a month ago but Eugene Melnyk stepped in and blocked it. His reasoning was that Murray has brought in numerous coaches so if he fires another coach then Murray should go with him.
