I was just coming here to post this! Man this just made my day! This kid is special and to get him locked up for that kind of money is pretty darn impressive in my book. I mean we are talking $8.4 million a year for the guy rated as the top corner in the NFL. Comparison wise Revis is averaging $16 million a year, Peterson and Sherman are averaging $14 million a year, and even our own Talib is averaging $9.5 a year. Yet the guy we just locked up for less is having a better year than them all. How Elway continues to do this over and over again is just down right impressive!

Great way to start the weekend. I guess negotiations were ongoing for a while then elway stepped in and got it done

Yeah I saw that...I'm surprised Elway wasn't in earlier. I'm hoping the same thing happens quickly with DT and Knighton would be my next 2 choices. Hopefully we don't have to wait until the midnight hour before FA to get a few of these guys locked up.

Never understood how this guy didn't get more love from the NFL, initially, watching KU football. Won't be looking forward to seeing my team play him anytime soon.

Man as a ku fan it must be tough rooting against both your guys(Harris and talib), huh?

From what I understand his coach didn't give him a good review to the NFL coaches. Throw in he had switched to safety out of necessity for the team and just didn't quite play as well at that position as Corner. Broncos definitely found a big time hidden gem in this kid.

Here is a quote by Chris after signing the contract...true class act and so glad we got him at least for another 5-years!

"I know I could have got more out in the (free-agent) market," Harris said. "I could have been someone else's No. 1 corner, but I decided it was best for me and my family to stay. I love it here. I love the fans. I love to come to work here. Everything about the city I love. The coaches I love. I'm just thankful to John and the Broncos for giving me an opportunity to come in and play and show them what I've got and then blessing me with this..."

This. This^10. Everyone knows about the situation with DT. He is a huge piece of the offense and I am confident Elway is not going to let him slip out the door. But outside of Denver I wonder how many people really know how vital Pot Roast is to the success of this defense. I am more convinced than ever that he is the pivotal piece that has this unit doing what it does. He draws double teams and that often frees up Von and Ware to do what they do. And Knighton does it without complaining. He doesn't get a lot of flashy stats, but he does a lot of the dirty work. He is not selfish and has emerged as a major leadership asset to the team. I truly hope the Broncos find a way to keep him in orange.

Yeah I really hope we lock up Pot Roast. Like you said he doesn't get the flashy stats but he does the dirty work that allows all the other guys to get them. He also is the guy that I think turns it up a notch in the biggest games for us. He does seem to have a bit of a problem starting out the season a bit slow because he doesn't always stay in the best of shape but come playoff time not sure there is another Defensive player that does more for this team than him.

DT is probably going to be our hardest one to lock up. Supposedly the Broncos offered him something close to Percy Harvin money our around $12.8 million a year and he turned it down. He then went on the NFL Network and said he is willing to take a home town discount so not sure what he considers a home town discount if he is turning down top-3 WR money. And maybe the problem isn't so much the $12.8 million a year but more in the guaranteed money side of it as the Broncos are not known for handing out big guaranteed contracts. They realize those are what get teams in trouble so I could see that part of it being on the low end. We shall see though. I'm just glad we got one of the big 3 names locked in before the season ended. I thought that was too many unknowns going into the off season to not have at least one of those guys locked in. Would love to see another get done. I would bet Knighton will be next as he will be the easier one. I could see him getting Mebane type money at 5-years/$25 million.

I heard an interview with Chris once where he talked about this. Basically he said that he got no support whatsoever from the KU coaching staff. This was right after the whole Mangino thing went down and Chris only had a year with the new coaching staff and they basically changed up the defense. So Chris had a down year, then got no help from the coaching staff and was left twisting in the wind.

Worked out great for the Broncos, thankfully. What's funny is that everyone raves about what a great job the Seahawks did finding Sherman late in the draft, yet you never hear much about the Broncos getting Harris undrafted.

Probably because Sherman runs his mouth every chance he gets versus Harris who stays quiet.

This contract just keeps getting better and better. Not only did Harris take a nice discount for the team but the way the contract is written he actually only counts $3 million against the Cap for this next season!

Then in 2016 he is still only at $9 million against the Cap. The Contract peaks in 2018 at $10,3666,666 which still compared to the top Corners (contract wise) that is still a bargain. So not only does this contract give us more room to work with for next year and signing players but it is at such a nice discounted price that it never really gives us a bad year. Now I will say this one does have the chance to have a bit more dead money if Harris goes downhill quickly but the kid has shown over and over again that he is going to work his tail off so he is one of those few players I would be willing to give a bit more over the extension of the contract instead of year by year like many of the contracts we have done.

He seems like a guy fans can really be proud of. Sounds like he is in it for more than money, loyalty to the fans and team.
