I think there are several fan bases living the whole series of stupid moves by the Blackhawks.

It's not that surprising... we saw this coming a mile away, back last summer when they went out and signed Hossa. They were in tight before that, but that was the final nail in the coffin. No reason not to live it up, heh heh heh.

What Shack said. We've been mumbling about this for awhile now. It was also said that they have a one year window to mess around and win it all, so I can't really say much there. I'm sure it was worth it to them. But yeah, I'd be a liar liar pants on fire if I said I wasn't enjoying this a little bit.:)

One thing I think that is kind of lost in all of this is that there are some veterans on that team that have now won a cup. The experience of their core will be able to help the new guys transition a little faster because of that, imo.

i really don't think there's a stupid enough GM in the league to take on Campbell's contract...so a trade is out of the question IMO. if they waive either of Campbell or Huet (the latter being more likely) they're gonna be eating a lot of money, and the Wirtz family doesn't like that much...and the only way a trade happens is if they're adding some nice draft picks in combo with the players named. really, the biggest issue is that most teams can't take on that much salary right now.

Wait...

Did Glen Sather get fired?

I would say we are certainly enjoying ourselves. :D

True story - I grew up the youngest of 3 brothers, one is 5 years older and the other is 7. When I was a kid I would get picked on, and beat up day in day out. Although one particular summer day when I had enough of it, I just hauled off, jumped up and popped the oldest one right in the nose. Bloodied it instantly and ran like a mofo. (didn't come home til dark) I got a little respect and they left me alone for awhile. But that next summer, they held me hostage in a tree with mail order automatic BB guns, and little brother was put back in his place.:D

The short-term gamble paid off for the Hawks with the Stanley Cup. But, they've mortgaged their future by going all in for the 2009-10 season. The previous two cup winners in Pittsburgh and Detroit showed how a team can operate within the cap and remain competitive, and both teams have made sure that they will be competitive for years to come. Chicago dug themselves an early grave.

Was it worth it? Yes, they have a Cup for a franchise that experienced a severe drought in success, but they've cost themselves future success.
