Just curious to get some opinions on what posters think this team is going to do next season.

Right now as far as I can see it they dug themselves into such a deep hole that they wont be able to ice an entire roster next season unless they trade Kane or Toews.

The way I look at it is the GM's ignored all warning signs that they we're digging themselves into a hole. I remember there were a lot of reports coming out saying they should only resign Kane or Toews but they would handcuff themselves if they signed both. Looks like they ignored it and signed both anyway.

The only contract bright spot on that roster is Hossa.

To me the only way they could bail themselves out of this mess was to package Huet or Campbell with some positive young players. Instead of asking for picks I wouldve just Traded Big Bluff while his stock was high and sent Huet with him.

The Flyers traded away the Gauthier contract with a pick to the Kings who had tons of cap space. I would assume since the Devils can get rid of contracts of players that arent even playing anymore, that someone out there would take an overpaid goalie with some young talent.

I also think they couldve unloaded Campbell with Versteeg if they tried hard enough and put the right package together.

I remember talking to Boss a while back about the Campbell contract and he laughed at it saying thats going to be a cap nightmare...and sure enough it is probably the main contract thats eating up the Hawks.

To imagine what this team would've accomplished if they didnt have Campbell or Huet on their roster? I mean at the very minimum Huet considering he barely even sees ice time.

Would the Blackhawks be able to put Campbell and Huet on waivers? Do they have two-way contracts?

What do you guys think they're going to do? They're already a shell of their formerselves, and I think players are soon going to be jumping ship.

Thats just my opinion.

They are lucky they just won the Cup. Could you imagine if they lost to the Flyers and had all this happen to the team?

Even with eveything that is going wrong with the Blackhawks right now, I still envy the fans.

I wish the Sabres could win the Cup and then go back to sucking for another 40 years. I could at least die happy.

they can keep kane and toews. i did the numbers a while ago so i knew they would trade byfuglien and versteeg. they will most likely trade or waive huet. or waive him and bring him back up through re entry waivers if they do not like the idea of waiving him. they will just have to carry a lot of rookies and ahl players on their team.

they certainly have their hands full. waiving huet would get them a lot of cap room back, but apparently rocky, like his father, doesn't want to pay some chump millions to play in the minors.

They're basically at the Cap now with their goalie in arbitration and Niklas Hjalmarsson most likely heading to the Sharks because I doubt they'll match that offer. They have already lost Brent Sopel, Dustin Byfuglien, Kris Versteeg and Andrew Ladd this off-season. They have so many players to sign with such little money to do it I just dont see how its going to happen without getting rid of a massive contract. They're still carring that bonus penalty of 4mil...so whats to happen now?

i really don't think there's a stupid enough GM in the league to take on Campbell's contract...so a trade is out of the question IMO. if they waive either of Campbell or Huet (the latter being more likely) they're gonna be eating a lot of money, and the Wirtz family doesn't like that much...and the only way a trade happens is if they're adding some nice draft picks in combo with the players named. really, the biggest issue is that most teams can't take on that much salary right now.

Thanks Chris, Not blowing my own horn (it's hard to do) but that Campbell contract was a freaking nightmare for the Hawks He is not worth the money and now they have to live with it because no team in their right mind will take it.

Well maybe the Leafs HBK 5. :)

If the Sabres had Soupy on the team still, we might of won the series against Boston with a couple PP goals?

He was at least a good QB on the PP for us.

Not for that kind of money IPW. His defense leaves something to be desired.

i mean...soupy really had one solid year in buffalo that got him that money...it just seems so horrible now. for that money, you gotta be producing A LOT. i never understand why offensive D get more $ though...i guess there's fewer of them? i dunno, still don't like it.

I would think a team that has a lot of capspace would take the Campbell contract as long as they got some decent young talent in return. I mean Campbell can still play. Gauthier was on the decline and he was getting 3.5. I dunno maybe its just me but I think someone with a lot of caproom wouldve taken that contract from them with some decent young talent.

The Hawks have one of the worst contracts in sports, and a few other questionable ones, but they also have a very skilled young core locked up long term in Kane, Toews, and Keith. I don't think they win another Cup for a while, but they should be in contention for years to come.

Campbell, by far. Huet's is bad, but it's only for two more years. Five and a half is a horrendous cap hit for a back up goalie, but two seasons isn't going to kill them. They can still buy him out, or potentially trade him. Hossa's contract could easily come back to bite them, but for the time being they have a franchise winger locked up for a 5.2 million cap hit. That's a great deal for a team in contention mode.

Campbell however, has a bigger cap hit than Duncan Keith, Nick Lidstrom, Chris Pronger, and is just shy of Chara. He's also locked in for 6 more years, with an NTC. Not that he'd need it, because there isn't a GM in the league who can afford a PP specialist and second pairing defensive liability at that price. He's essentially Bryan McCabe with wheels. It'll be interesting to see what he does without Hjalmarsson there to bail him out next year.

HE IS 13th HIGHEST CAP HIT! woooow...i can think of 13 Dmen i'd take before campbell, let alone 13 other players.

holy crap there are some goofy contracts out there. $6.6m long term for Paul freakin' Stastny?
$7.8m for Brad Richards? talk about cashing in one one good playoff run.

oh well, at least now that Sopel got traded Campbell is back into the top 4 on Chicago's depth chart (for now)

Thus the salary cap to protect some of these GM's from them selves. Like it or not their are a handful of idiot GM's that brought it on them selves.

This would turn into MLB without it and that's not what I want to see.
