Well Seattle can no longer claim they have the loudest stadium as the Chief fans shattered the 137.6 decibels level that the Seahawks held for not quite a year cheering at a level of 142.2 decibels.

Seattle first had the record at 136.6 then it went to KC at 137.5 and then Seattle got it back at 137.6.

Maybe the warmer weather in KC helped it may be harder to create noise in December.

Again? Kansas City Chiefs fans set another world record for crowd noise - GeekWire

Oh, hey, another football team breaking a crowd noise record.

During the second quarter of tonight’s Monday Night Football game, Kansas City Chiefs fans set a new Guinness World Record and helped make Arrowhead Stadium “the loudest stadium in the world.”

For those that haven’t kept up, this is a recent new trend for NFL teams — well, at least two of them.

About one year ago, Seattle Seahawks fans broke a two-year-old crowd noise record at CenturyLink Field — which was specifically built to increase noise levels — in a game against the 49ers at 136.6 decibles.

Then, the Chiefs wanted in on the fun and fans at Arrowhead Stadium set a new world record one month later, beating Seattle’s mark by 0.9 decibels.

But the Seahawks wanted the record back and the 12th Man came through this past December with a noise level of 137.6 decibels, narrowly beating the Chiefs record.

Apparently the Chiefs organization didn’t want to let Seattle be both world champions AND the world-record holder for crowd noise level. So, today, fans got real loud — like, 142.2 decibels loud.

The noise record is kind of cool, but also kind of lame to discuss. Anyone prepared to say that he or she put a team over the top by making noise? Still, having watched -- and listened to -- games, crowd noise does sometimes have an effect.

I'm looking forward to going to Arrowhead to see this insanity first hand. I'm curious how it compares to the the CLink.

I think Seattle leads the league in false starts since 2002, hell maybe back even farther.

It's kind of a pissing contest, it is obvious both fanbases give a damn during the games, and have the stadium design to aid them in their making of noise. Yes, Arrowhead "cheats" too, think about it. Not going to lie, was kind of surprised it was initially broken about halfway through the 1st quarter if Arrowhead had the official DB levels (Yes, I was at the game).

I am not really a math wizard, but isn't the DB scale logarithmic?

KC has a solid fan base. Arrowhead has always been loud.

Crowd noise has a lot to do with how stadiums are built though.

It's all staged as well. "On the count of 3, everyone scream". I bet if they put a decibel reader in every stadium and staged a noise competition you would see different stadiums win. Especially if it is a dome.

Maybe, but I would say that Seahawks and Chiefs fans were screaming awfully loud on most drives, if not every play when on defense, on plenty of occasions prior to the pissing contest nonsense. Nobody was paying attention, to my knowledge at least, when the Bills visited Arrowhead on MNF years and years ago for decibels.

No question the fans are great. I just think the "noise competition" is kind of lame.

Great job to the awesome fan base in KC.

I hope Seattle lets it go and never tries again. We know what we have.
Stadium design or not, the Feeling at CenturyLink is electric, as it is in MANY OTHER stadiums too.

Hopefully it will be a capacity crowd. It shouldn't be bitterly cold like it can be later in the season.

Crowd noise is a factor in drawing false starts. QB cadence is probably more important. O-lineman worried about blocking his man, however, is probably the biggest factor.

Seattle has been the most electric stadium I've visited (so far I've been to 7).

I don't think I've used my actual seat at the CLink for more than 10 minutes (aside from halftime) in total in the dozen or so games I've been to there. The fans are on their feet all game and they yell on all 4 downs. It's amazing to witness.

First off, to the O.P., colder denser air will allow for LOUDER sound to travel. No reason to stage these type of events in the warmer Summer/early Fall. Now that we have ended that science lesson, my two cents....

1.) Congrats to the K.C. fans. You earned it!

2.) I hope we end this idiotic stadium noise crap once and for all. it is getting beyond stupid to do these stunts. The next stadium will need to promote a 1/2 price and chili and burritos beforehand to help with increasing the crowd noise.

Seattle's gonna get all butthurt about this and they're going to call the Guiness people to come when they play the 49ers. I'll make that bet with anyone.

I think loud stadiums are the greatest and these crowd noise stats are kinda cool IMO. KC has ALWAYS had loud crowds at Arrowhead ... congrats to the KC fans.

Piped in sound though???? I've heard some stadiums do that, but I dunno bout KC or Seattle. I would hope not. :noidea:

As in noise from speakers? Doesn't happen. It would be denial to say the design of each stadium doesn't aid the fans in their noise making though.
