if you are looking for assurances , then it wont happen . i will say any drafted player from a trade down has as much chance of succeeding and young does . the question is by how much based on your parameter that young will be what people say he is

Looking for assurances? This is a question about the reader's confidence in potential players acquired in a possible trade down. As I read your response, these players have an equal chance at success as Young, correct?

true but it was 2 extra first round picks. The Rams had no idea that RG3 would blow out his knee. Bottom line its fair compensation to move up 3 spots. I dnt think the Dolphins are that stupid and offer that deal anyways.

What makes it fair? A trade value chart?

I would much rather the Dolphins first next season, than 26 this season, because there is little chance they will be drafting better than 26 in 2021. As a matter of fact, I would suggest there is a better chance they are drafting top five in 2021 than drafting lower than 26.

I agree you can always negotiate the two extra firsts.

One more question, given that scenario versus drafting Chase Young, what happens to Kerrigan and Williams in both cases?
It would be interesting to include Trent in the trade with Miami. That takes away Miami's need for a LT - which they likely would have used one of their 1sts for - making the trade up make more sense for them.

Ok fine - we're probably not going to make a trade. Or... RR is a helluva poker player?

i would say yes . Simmons could be every bit the game changer young could be, so could okuda so could ruggs or thomas .

on the flip side these could have RK type careers while we passed up on watt. watt being the young in this scenario

And if Miami let's us out of the trade if Simmons isn't there at 5... it'd be insane to turn that down, imo. Does anyone think that the Skins have a 43 LBer who's a legit blitzing threat?

I think @skinsdad62 believs so and if he does, he's wrong. And the only way he'd be right would be if said 43 LBer who's a legit blitzing threat was a diamond in the rough type, very little known on the fringe player. RK has never been a 43 LB. He was a hand in the dirt DE at Purdue and a 34 LB/stand up DE with tjhe Skins.

No I don’t think we have a 4-3 lb blitzing threat . We might not get one this year either .

I think you have to draft chase young if you don’t get a huge haul of high draft picks

To clear it up when I say RK type player I mean a very good 10 year pro with a few pro bowls . When I say JJ Watt type I mean game changing HOF candidate

Could be, but is the risk worth taking?

Keep in mind, we have a "here" problem in Washington! It's instituted in:

Here, we don't get to have nice things!

Here, We'll look at a good player and a great one, then chose the good one.

Here, we trade an unprecedented number of draft selections to get "that" guy, and years later, debate over
whether or not it's proper to draft "that" guy when we're in position to draft him without trading for that
right.

Here, there's a bend towards instant gratification/results where there's no time for real development. be ready,
fully developed, or you're gone!

Here, we actually expect square pegs to fit into round holes, or better stated, players to fit into a undefined
system, adjusting to a manner of play that they never were noted for, and coaches/management
determined to never adjust to their players strengths, keeping their "my way or Highway" styles.

Here, we often place blame on players, when it's a coaching issue, we blame coaches when there's a player
issue and we expect wins in the interim.

Young could bust but we can go over this forever . The smart move is taking young .

No doubt there will. always be an inherent risk with the draft no matter what a team does. Taking Young is the smart move, its alsomthe safe move. And that is kinda freaakingt me out. As there is no outfit in sports that can fuck up a wet dream quite like us.

Oh,I fully expect that there will come a time when Young will be deemed less than what is expected by some. It's the same thing that's currently happening to Haskins, but at the end of the day, these two should end up being teammates in 2020.

Yeah man, shit in... shit out with a few sprinkled titles during interrupted seasons. Oh damn, perhaps there's going to be a P.W.C (Pandemic World Championship) coming soon! [sigh]

That and injury prone players. Yeah, it's tempting to take a player who slid a round or 2 because of injuries, but we can't use that as a general strategy.
