People have been saying it is going to hurt the team in future years

Your article says just that.

"The upside to restructuring contracts is that it frees up cap space in the short-term. The downside is that it increases cap numbers in future seasons. It’s a classic example of kicking the can down the road"

Its a desperate move by a declining team
They've been doing this for a decade.

Produced a Super Bowl already.

so i wont bring you into the other thread. But your saying replacing 17 guys is easy, and you can easily replace 31% of your roster, and do it cheaper than before

That's a nice move for the short-term, but good luck finding a replacement for a Super Bowl MVP quarterback. Those are in short supply.

They had this plan all along. Not even close to desperation bro
are they waiting to see what happens in the draft..... then not get a Qb say they were always dedicated to this guy?

Please. Tell me their plan? Since you know.

Thus the 50 years of desperation. Eventually it pays off. Then it's back to the same old shit.

What the Eagles are doing is getting guys to take less on the cap in exchange for more guaranteed money in future years. So they don't get more overall, but get more guaranteed. They did this for Malcolm Jenkins, and some others. It makes sense with players like that who were unlikely to be cut anyway. But it is riskier with a guy like Lane Johnson due to his juice issues.
I don't know the specifics of what Johnson did or the Eagles players in general, but that isn't how it usually works exactly. Usually when teams have a cap problem like the Eagles do now and they restructure players they convert salary to bonus. So the player gets the money up front, nit in future years and the team spreads his bonus out for cap purposes (not cash purposes) over up to 5 years or whatever is left on the contract. It is 100% kicking the can down the road and hurting future cap year to help the current year. It is part of dealing with the cap in the NFL and not an issue if you do it wisely: only on a couple of players and only on players that likely will see the end of or at least most of their contracts so you aren't stuck with a lot of "dead money" on a player you can't afford to cut or players whose cap hits exceed their production.

Educate yourselves before opening your yappers to avoid threads like these.

Eagles, Lane Johnson reportedly agree to restructured contract

Exhibit 279.f.1 on managing the cap.

Good luck to you all.
I think you need to educate yourself. You won a SB and made the playoffs the next year because of Foles who is gone because of your cap problem. You let Jernigan go because of your cap problem. You traded Bennett because of your cap problem. You won't likely have all 3 of jeffery, Agholar and Tate because of your cap problem. You are kicking the can down the road and hurting future years caps because of your cap problem. No one ever said you won't get under the cap. We told you what you were going to have to do to get there and that is exactly what is happening. Your team is already much worse than last year because of your cap problem. You better hope you draft well or you will have a huge problem. The money you used last year on guys like Bennett and Ngata and the such could have rolled into this year to keep your team together. Now you are looking to fill holes and resign who you can and your draft picks with that money you freed up and this will come back to bite you in future years.

Nope... 1st it was “The Eagles are so fucked in 2019 and are in complete cap hell”. Now that they are 27 million under a week later it’s, “You guys are so fucked when you have to sign Wentz”.
The only thing I don’t get is the Patriots are the SB champs and a complete dynasty. Yet 87% of all posts are about the Eagles. Why?
We lost a great backup QB, a back up DE and a DT who hardly played last year. Will they be missed? Absolutely but the good teams keep reinventing themselves in the draft. No one knows if the Eagles will land a bunch of studs or a bunch of scrubs. That will be the determining factor.
Here is where you cherry pick your memories. The cap is Math. Any moron with a calculator can get any team under the cap by restructuring and not resigning key players and not adding players they may otherwise want to via FA. But that isn't helping your team. That works in the short run to get under the cap, but causes you to not be able to keep your own contributing players in the future. Restructuring is a problem if you do it with too many guys. You need to look down the road a couple of years to see it's impact.

A lot of Cowboy fans saw this a few years back as we restructured guys every year and saw how it was hurting this team for years as they were hamstrung with bad restructures and bad FA contracts. Others didn't realize it and said 'we got under the cap' and thought Stephen Jones was a good cap guy because he had a calculator. Then you end up with a shit load of dead money after guys leave and you realize what you pay a guy like Romo after he leaves is more than a guy like ET makes and you see how bad restructuring is. You look at a guy like T Smith and his huge amount of dead money and bad back and key position that needs to be replaced if he can't play and see how it could have crippled your team because of how he was restructured. If you were a SB team I'd say go for it. Since you aren't you better hope you start thinking about the future cap years or your damn right you'll be fucked when Wentz wants $30M per year. That's not changing the narrative because it is one in the same. Pay the piper now or later...
