Oh, I thought it read "bigger than the game" ... not "ESPN sycophant hype-machine golden-boy."
My bad.

Heard it so many times how Vick 'revolutionized' the QB position (debatable with Cunningham, Young, etc) and VT became a household name after this season. Then was bigger than the game in the pros with his off field issues.

This thread has basically become "who was/is really good that you've enjoyed watching".

Reggie Bush, Billy Sims, those ND guys - they aren't on this list.

Prime Time, Tebow, The Boz, those are the types that belong. The types that folks with no interest in sports even know about.

I hope that was the intent. Because I don't think any player has been "bigger than the game".
In that light I would say: Hershel, Bo, Archie, OJ (before he was a murderer), Earl Campbell, This list could go on forever.

I think this thread was supposed to be about guys who became famous and household names irregardless of stats and trophies.

There is a lot of great college football players, but only a handful truly transcended into a spot "bigger" than the game.

..whether it was a marketing niche, social political activism, a catch phrase, criminality, or whatever.....something about the player that was bigger than the game. TMZ would be all over these guys.

That is why a guy like Johnny Manziel is more likely to be on the list than Cam Newton despite achieving far less inside the game.

Condredge Holloway. "The artfull dodger" was the first American of African descent to start as quarterback for an SEC team. Drafted by the NFL NE Patriots (who intended for him to become a DB), Condredge elected to play in the CFL, where he had great success as QB for the Ottawa, Toronto, and BC teams. In 2011, ESPN films released, The Color Orange: The Condredge Holloway Story.

Exactly. The most is not very long.

Marinovich and Mandorich are in I believe.
