Cam Newton
Vince Young
Darren McFadden - Best back I have seen since Bo and Herschel with power and speed.

Michael Crabtree - Personal choice but dude was insane in college grabbing anything in his general area.

Gotta add Barry Sanders to the list. His 2,628 rushing yards in only 11 games may never be broken.

Not the point of thread.

Goat? Probably. Bigger than the game? No. He was too solid of a person to make the list.

Bo and Hershel are the only guys that didn't have sideshows to go along with their talents on the "in list" so far.

If we were going off greats Archie would be #1. Two time Heisman en sech. Before my time.

I need help from the older crowd on guys pre 1980.

Considering Roger, Ernie, Jim Brown, And Archie. But just don't know. Know they were great, but household names to non sports fans? Not sure.

Fair enough.

Archie. We need more input.

Can you make the case? I am 39 so I can't. I have read a book where a chapter was dedicated to him. But seems pretty modest. I literally have no idea.

Like you mentioned in your # 73 comment he's the only 2x Heisman winner. Also he started 4 consecutive Rose Bowls & ran for 100 yards or more in 31 consecutive games.

Their playing days were also before my time, but President Gerald Ford and Supreme Court Justice Byron "Wizzard" White are certainly "household names".

Amazing. It truly is.

I imagine he was a household name that captured America. Need feet on the ground accounts.
