Nick Caserio was named director of player personnel on Feb. 21, 2008, after serving in a number of roles for the Patriots' personnel department and coaching staff.

2008 Draft:
Mayo, Wheately, Crable, O'Connell, Wilhite, Slater, Ruud

2009 Draft:
Chung, Brace, Butler, Vollmer, Tate, McKenzie, Ohrenberger, Bussey, Ingram, Pryor, Edelman, Richard.

Work some of that magic on the Fins Nick...

Krafty - did you notice that Ohrenberger was starting for the Chargers en route to their run to the playoffs? He showed well....

He's started five regular games since he was drafted by the Pats and only one was with the Chargers this year plus he only played against the Broncos because Hardwick was injured.

He's another one of those head-scratching reaches they might have been able to sign as an UDFA.

Butler's a starter / top reserve, Vollmer is an all pro, Tate is a strong special teams player, McKenzie was actually a fine player who got edged out a position where they had ridiculous depth after he got hurt, Myron Pryor was a productive pick for them, Edelman obviously is good.

Problem is that Tate and Butler are productive... for other teams. They washed out here. Leaves the final tally from the '08 and '09 drafts at just 3 starters, plus Slater (how do we rank him? He's 'only' a special teamer, but he's the best one in the entire league), plus a late round pick who they got above average production out of for his draft position (Pryor). Not a good haul over 2 seasons. 2005 to 2009, their drafts flat out sucked.

Mayo, Vollmer, Edelman and Slater from 19 picks.

In 2008 & 2009 they had one 1st round pick, five 2nd round picks and four 3rd round picks to use and came away with two players that managed to stay with the team.

Two players out of ten top 100 selections isn't exactly doing a good job IMO...considering one was a top ten pick.

We're now 5 years removed from the 2008 draft, so we're actually past the average career of an NFL player (3 years)... like I said, Myron Pryor was more productive than expected for a 6th. Not that this changes the calculation much - those drafts sucked.

ANy 4th round pick that lasts 4 years in the NFL is not a big reach.

New England Patriots All-Time Draft History - Pro-Football-Reference.com

For all you draft historians you might like this sight.

Rich Ohrnberger

Pre-draft analysis:
Rich was not invited to the NFL Combine, and NFLDraftScout had him ranked as the #326 prospect in the draft.

Picked:
Round Four, Pick 23, Overall Pick 123. (Patriots traded up)

Success:
He did not start a single game for the Patriots, did not appear in a game in 2011, and started four games for the Arizona Cardinals in 2012.

Those two drafts set the team back when they should have done the opposite...IMO.

I'm not sure who you're arguing with, tbh. The 2008 draft was a total failure and 2009 was rocky (but did yield a couple quality starters plus draft picks that would eventually turn into a decent chunk of the core of the team).

2008 was the last draft Scott Pioli had major input into - his drafting from 2005 to 2008 sucked ass, and then his drafting with the Chiefs was bad as well. Weird that he ever had the reputation of being a good personnel guy. Their drafting since 2009 has been much better, not perfect but better.

You're expecting an argument but I wasn't bringing one. I just stated what I consider to be a fact...the '08 & '09 drafts set the team back when all those high picks should have done the opposite.

Just read he declined. Good move if you ask me. I am not sure you want Mia as your first job. Can't blame him for taking a chance.
