I'm usually a big Carter hater myself but I have to agree. Carter was very good defensively last night halting a couple somewhat strong shifts from the Crosby line by actually playing physical on the boards. Needless to say I was shocked.
Not only defensive play he USED the body on him and rubbed him out....why oh why can't he do that more often? In any case he's playing far better than earlier in the year so let's just let him be. He couldn't play with Richie or Giroux so maybe he needs to be the guy on his line...who knows I don't care as long as he plays good two way hockey.
He does. He's a big man and he should be able to throw his weight around like that and make those sort of plays on the puck more often.
Carter also needs to do more of what he did tonight to score the first goal of the game. Go wide with speed, beat the defender around the corner and drive to the net hard with the puck. That was flawless execution. It's something that not many players of his size can pull off, but Carter has the strength, speed and skill to be able to do it routinely. I would love to see more of that. It really makes him dangerous in combination with his wrist shot.
Carter has also been by far our best face off man. He is at a 60.7% clip, which puts him tied for 3rd in the entire league. We often get on him when he doesn't score, but he seems to be doing a lot of the other things that Lavy wants to see. It really showed up in the Pens game with him keeping Crosby in check.
