Dan Tencer says Brian Campbell to CBJ, but Dan Tencer is a fucking idiot.
also, a douchebag, piece of shit, waste of space motherfucking clown.

so anyways, that's another rumour.

I was sweating bullets there for a while. In the right situation, Campbell is decent.

Columbus is not that situation. Let him play out the string in Florida. I'm fine with that.

What I don't understand is if Carter had a no trade clause... as the article said he did, why didn't he nix the trade:confused2:

It didn't go into effect until July 1st I think? Or sometime in the future. It wasn't in effect when he was traded, that much I know.

betcha that chaps his ass :flame:. I could see why that in particular would upsetting to him. Negotiating a long-term contract, and they move him just days prior to his NTC kicking in.

At the same time, why didn't his agent negotiate that for last year, as well. Business is business. Get over it, Jeff.

The NTC goes into effect 7/1/2012. But it was not transferrable, so the Jackets do not have to honor it.

Supposedly they are going to write it in to the deal for him.

for both Carter and Richards, the NMC wasn't allowed to kick in (due to their age/experience) until July 2012.
Richards has also said that if he thought he might get traded he wold not have signed his long term deal either.

edit: errr.. what 43 said. must learn to refresh

I completely agree with their feelings of betrayal. When you sign a long term deal, particularly one for over six years, you would think any short-term movement wouldn't be very likely.

I was unaware that you couldn't have a NMC due to lack of experience/age. That is not a well thought out rule, IMHO. If you are signing a contract with the term and dollar amount that Carter obviously was, that should give you some leniency. I'm sure clubs like to know they aren't tied down to young talent if they end up flaming out, but players that are signing deals with over a decade of length, and dollar amounts in excess of 8 figures should be pretty close to a can't miss.

Of course there are exceptions to my example, but not many. The fact that Philly moved Carter days before this kicked into his contract can be viewed as a shrewd business decision, and I think they did the right thing, however, when players give back to a club by taking a discount, getting stabbed in the back afterward is pretty shitty.

It was actually a year before the NTC came into effect, but while I agree it's part of the business, I'd be a very peeved person if I made a long term commitment to a team and took a discount in salary to do so, then they not only said I'd be with them for longterm days before the trade, but traded me.

I know Holmgren is really widely respected, but to do that to TWO guys in the same week?

That's downright Clarke-ish.

Wonder how the rest of the league feels about Holmgren now?

guaranteed this will be remembered when other UFAs are considering the Flyers.
they'll either be more insistent on a NTC upfront, or request more money in lieu of.

I see both deals Philly made as knee jerk reactions. I realize they got good young talent in return & were able to sign Bryzgalov, but trading both players was a mistake as far as I'm concerned.

Philly has always been a "reactive" franchise, not a planning one.

Ed Snider basically said his team will never have a goalie problem again. I think the goaltending situation frustrated him to the point he told Holmgren do whatever you have to do to fix it.

Ed wants to win & has always done whatever has been needed in terms of spending money on the team. I think he's an owner any sports franchise would be lucky to have. I just think the Flyers over did it by trading both guys.

The Carter trade made a lot of sense because of the contract & the fact that he hasn't shown up in the playoffs the past two seasons. Although he did play injured this season.

I wouldn't have traded Richards.

I agree on all points. They overdid it on Bryz, Richards is a very special player to be trading, and it seems there could have been another way to do it (Hartnell, Verstud, + a nice pick to Florida for some trash?).

It seems the Flyers franchise is always trying to figure out ways to beat the top dog (Devils, Penguins, etc) rather than just BECOMING the top dog.

I agree, but I would take it one step further. Both trades were fine independent of each other. However, they didn't happen in a vacuum, and they weren't independent of each other. Center is the second most important position on the ice behind goaltender. Teams which tend to win often are strong up the middle. That's always been the model. The Flyers just got rid of their two best centers. Sure they have guys who might be more talented, but Richards and Carter have been productive at the NHL level. I would have looked to deal a winger instead if I were in the Flyers' position, in addition to one of the centers, but not trade both of them.

Very good point. In recent years they've traded away top prospects to improve the current team. Now all of a sudden they trade their best goal scorer & Captain for prospects. I realize they still have plenty of talent on the roster, but they just took two steps back in my opinion.

Short and sweet...

The face, direction and attitude of this Flyers team needed to be changed for the short and long term immediately.

For all of their pluses and minuses, Richards and Carter had this team heading nowhere and at a snails pace. They both acted like since they both had landed their big contracts that the work ethic and pride didn't need to be displayed or earned anymore.

I personally applaud Paul Holmgren for making these moves and for those of you who said it was a reactionary move.....c'mon, be serious. Judging by Holmgren crying in an interview live and on tv...these decisions were anything but and to say so is just ridiculous and unwarranted.
