The 1.5 will help this year at the expense of next year. Similar to Boldin's 2nd year cap hit. The 1.5 could be used to pay for Dawson or Whitner but the Niners already have cap space to fill in all of those spots you mentioned. 1.5 isn't going to move the needle that much in signing guys.

In any case I see it as a pre-June 1st move and just wipe away everything on Roger's contract this year. Niners have more then enough wiggle room to sign who they need to sign and work on extensions.

I believe we have around $30 million in Cap for next year, with reports it will be going up by $10 million again. If that is true, than it would be much easier for us to handle the $1.5 million next year, rather than this year. $1.5 million from $15 million or $1.5 million from $40 million? We have to pay it either way, so why not make it in a year that it is easier to handle?

I'm sorry it is currently around $40 million with the chance to go up to $50 million. We do have guys like, Kap, Iupati, Crabs, and Aldon we need to lock up. Also guys like Bruce Miller, Glenn Dorsey, Chris Culliver are due as well. But $1.5 comes out of $50 a hell of a lot easier than $15 million

Good news is a good CB market this year. A lot of talent out there.

I would agree if we could not roll money over to next year. If we end up with 2 million under the cap this year, not counting Rogers, we'll be happy we designated the money later in 2015, because otherwise, we'd have only a half million left for emergencies. 2 million is only illustrative, if we need 4 million saved to feel safe, than 4 million, etc.

As far as wiggle room, I'd rather use that wiggle room for whomever we extend to save money for later if we use this year's. This would be after we've done all the major work.

Niners doing the Post 1st designation. Guess they needed the money this year. Well if the cap does go up to 150 next season then the 1.5 dead money will hurt alot less.

Bad news on this is the 49ers don't get the $6.6M in space until June 2nd. Looks like that money will be earmarked for an extension and/or draft unless a decent player is cut we wanna pick up then.

What does that mean for Rogers if it's a post-June designation?
