Sauces....

The New York Mets plan to hire Carlos Beltran as the team's new manager, a source confirmed to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Beltran spent parts of seven of his 20 MLB seasons with the Mets and will replace Mickey Callaway in the dugout.

The job will be Beltran's first as a major-league manager, though he was a candidate for the New York Yankees opening that eventually went to Aaron Boone.

Beltran has served a special assistant in the Yankees' front office since 2018.

Has he managed at any level? It seems like teams are more likely to start managers out at the major league level without minor league managing experience now. Then again, I guy like Beltran could have 150 million dollars in the bank so it's probably hard to get him to go spend a few years in the minors to prove himself.

Plus being an mlb manager isn't exactly brain surgery--virtually all of us who post on sportshoopla are smarter than all the current mlb managers.

I thought that Callaway did a decent job and deserved at least one more year.

Doesn't matter if you had prior managing experience if you're going to an AL team.
