Trade Shelby Miller & Tyrell Jenkins for Heyward & Jordan Walden...

Excellent move by St Louis, grabbing the next best trade option to Stanton... I was hoping the Red Sox would make this move...

Great move by Atlanta.

Get a quality rotation piece under control for 4 years for a corner OF that has one more season left on his deal and is about to get a silly contract based on the hype that still surrounds him (hype which he has not even come close to justifying with his production so far).

Seems like a convenient trade for both teams.

The big question for the Braves is whether Shelby Miller is an improving commodity or an inconsistent one.

The big question for the Cardinals is whether Heyward can hit left handed pitching long term.

Eyeball test feels like the Cardinals won but at the end of the day, baseball is always about pitching.

Decent deal for both teams IMO. Heyward may turn into the star he was supposed to be as a Cardinal.

Interesting trade. I will miss Heyward, but this is the perfect time to trade him. This may mean Gattis moves to Left field now with Bethancourt taking over the catching duties.

aren't the Braves actively trying to trade Gattis though?

Definitely an important part of the deal that favors Atlanta. Guess I just feel like Heyward is more likely than Miller to become consistently good, but who knows?

Matt Holliday is 34 but on the books for 2 more years.

I'm guessing 2015 will be Holliday in LF, Jay in CF and Heyward in RF with Grichuk off the bench as a PH and/or defensive replacement for Holliday during the season so he doesn't wear down.

Jon Jay is a good player but he isnt ideal a center fielder. Can Heyward play Center Field?

I like the trade. Heyward is a great defender but his bat is very inconsistent. It looks like the Braves are giving up on next year and trying to build for 2016

The Cardinals are definitely taking the bigger risk but I think its the right move to make. They dont have Taveras and they want to move Carlos Martinez into a starting pitcher role and this fits into their long term plans fairly well as long as Heyward doesnt bust.

This is probably a win/win trade

Heyward's bat has certainly been disappointing, but a 108 OPS+ and .351 OBP are far from bad. Combine that with his ridiculous defense and you have yourself a damn good player. His power numbers have fallen off pretty sharply over the last two years though, which is a bit concerning.

Shelby Miller does have 4 years of team control left, and he's only 24. Miller's coming off a very pedestrian 2014 season (which saw his strikeout rate fall off a cliff), though he did pitch much better in the 2nd half and cut down on the walks. Cardinals do have a lot of young pitching.

I had heard that, but there was also talk about putting him in the OF. Bethancourt is ready to take the reins at catcher. I would rather see the Braves trade Gattis than watch him attempt to play of OF. The Braves desperately need some players that can put the ball in play and aren't going for the home run with every swing.

Heyward would be great in CF.
