I’m not gonna lie. I didnt watch a single second of this game, bc it felt to me like the caps blew their chance last game.

When they were up 3-0, I knew they were gonna lose. i KNEW it.

First round playoff exit it is. Siiiiiiiiigggghhhhhh.

That's a strong take. I'm not sure what to make of this. Gave the #1 team in the league all they could handle, but they haven't won a series since the cup.

Caps got rid of both goalies rhis offseason - traded VV to somebody for draft licks (Devils, maybe), and didnt offer a contract to Samsonov.

Rebuilding time?

Siiiiggghhhhh. Had to happen sooner rather than later. Nicky’s out most of the year, Oshie is old, no goaltending, not a huge amount of prospects in the minors…….. probably time.

it is certainly looking that way. tell you what though, we were fucking spoiled. They made the playoffs every year since 2008 except for 1 year which i think it was 2014.

Sammy is unofficially gone. They would have had to increase his pay by making him an offer. They did not want to pay that amount ($3 millionish) If he doesn't receiver an offer he likes they can bring him back.

Either way I think a new starting goalie joins the team soon .... maybe tomorrow when free agency starts.

They supposedly have a deal all but done with Darcy Kuemper. Window is definitely closing, but grabbing Kuemper is a clear upgrade imo from and inconsistent Samsonov and a somewhat unproven Vanecek.

Is Kuemper really an upgrade, or was Colorado so adept at scoring / limiting chances that Kuemper looked better than average?

VV and Samsonov were certainly frustrating.

Part of me wishes the Caps started the rebuild already, because this move feels like putting lipstick on a pig.

I think he's a upgrade. The Caps main problem has been goalie, but Backstrom can't seem to stay healthy and the Wilson injury crushed us during the playoffs.

We got a lot of puck luck during the run. Gonna need some this year. I think he fills the roll Lundqvist was supposed to have. A solid vet that you can count on.

Might not happen this year but they need to start replacing some of these guys. Love Backstrom but health is an issue. Love Oshie but he hardly played last year. Kuemper will help.

He can fill in for Backstrom who will be out for an undetermined amount of time from hip surgery for the 2nd straight year.

Didn't like the Mantha trade. With an old team like the Caps I thought we could have used Vrana's speed. That said, Mantha is having a nice little start to the season. Need this one tonight.
