I would have thought $4/mil per would have been around his asking, but hey, its an extra half million to a guy who's a great player, an important character on the team, and a stellar human being. That's a small price to pay, especially since I work near Verizon and may get a flat tire one of these days.

Laich deal front-loaded with $6.5 million next season then $4 M each of following 2 yrs; $4.5 M in 2014-15; and $4 M each of last 2 yrs

Front-loaded free agent deals a function of prospective 2012-13 rollback/lockout.

6 years is a lot for a guy like Laich...well, IMO 6 years is a lot for a large amount of players in this league. Good hit though. Makes it seem like Semin trade is more imminent.

Kelly Miller and Joe Reekie were like that as well once they became a part of the team. Also, Brendan Witt tried like hell to not get lost in the system but he was treated like dirt towards the end.
