Oh, I thought it was right on time. ;)

Anyhow, I hope the new GM has some plans to shake things up. One of the bigs needs to go in Washington. Time for some changes, though I don't have much confidence the new (old) guy is going to be the one to do it.

you think Ted is controlling the management in the sense of actual player movement? this almost seems like a puppet control move

no but trotz had players to work with and at least make the postseason more than once.

so caps had no players? well that explains this

I know you are not talking to me and this is a message board but would you trade Ovie for some better goaltending and a couple of puck moving defensemen?

I have suggested this numerous times, but am often told by Caps fans that it is not even close to true.

I think Leonsis might be just involved enough to be a problem. This hire doesn't change my mind in any way.

being serious for a moment, I would have traded Ovechkin a couple years ago. I dont think however you need to trade for goaltending now, there are so many quality net minders available and up and coming that giving up too much for a goalie is risky. I think you could get a great forward and defensemen for Ovie and a prospect and high pick.

good point about the goaltending market.....I thought Oates could have given the Caps a chance with more patience from management, Holtby is a backup to whoever could be a starter

I think they want Braden Holtby to be the guy and people have to realize he started out really young and still needs time to develop, maybe if they sign a guy like Jonas Hiller they'll have a chance to get back into the playoffs

yeah I think if they get a solid vet they can split the duties until he is ready. I think the problem starts and finishes with Ovie really and if they can get him on board to play the two way game and support his team mates they can be alot better.

Ovie looks very uncomfortable in a 2-way game. we shall see

Ovie definitely is the start, if they can get him to play defense everyone should - I still think they also need a top pairing d-man because I don't see John Carlson and Karl Alzner as top pairing guys

Oates should have stayed as coach,

They should have gone after goaltending instead of firing.

Gotta disagree with this one. Hell, they should have probably fired Oates just based on the amount of time he gave Jay fucking Beagle on the top line.

Also don't agree that goaltending was the problem. They were 6th in the league in SV% this past season. Bigger problem was that they gave up the 4th most shots. 3rd most shots the previous (partial) season too (11th in SV%).

I'm in agreement with this - I've said before, I think people have to let Holtby ride it out because he's still very young and started out at a real early age - they really need to shore up the defense, hiring Barry Trotz is the first step now if they can shore up the defense then it should get better sooner rather than later - you see how the Caps played in a defensive system under Dale Hunter, they played well in the playoffs two years ago - that's what you might see if Barry Trotz can get these guys to buy in
