Caps promote Brian Maclellan to GM and name Barry Trotz as coach

He's a player development coach, and based on how the kids finished the season... I'd say pretty well.

No this isnt a fit and there will be a new coach by the middle of the season. Trotz wont be able to do what no other coach has done......coach ovie. If coach Boudreau gets fired in Washington, Trotz doesnt have a chance. This tells me leonsis isnt an owner.

I don't know if Trotz will get fired quick, but if Ovie has even the slightest amount of brain in his head he will at least *try* to work with him. If Trotz has trouble, then it is NO QUESTION what the problem is.

Trotz is at least as good as Boudreau is at teaching game mechanics. If he can't get his system implemented then the new GM will have to unload the entire team and spray the locker room with disinfectant.


Hiring the asst GM tells the locker room that whatever they were doing should be tolerable some more. No top to bottom change.

hanlon, boudreau, Hunter, Oates and now Trotz (so technically 4 since Ovie came into the league) Trotz would be the 5th.

Trotz wasnt any good in Nashville they got him on the cheap and probably on the cheap now as well

Yeah but in Trotz' defense Boudreau was following Carlyle. That's like taking over a child ******er's 3rd grade class, real low bar for improvement
