Forward Andrew Peters is retiring from the National Hockey League after six seasons with the Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils.

The native of St. Catharines, Ont., signed with Florida as a free agent last summer but was traded to Vancouver on Oct. 6, and was unable to win a spot on the Canucks roster.

He chose to retire after clearing NHL waivers earlier this week.

"While it is hard to retire from the game I have loved since I was a child, I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to play with and against the best players in the world over the course of my career," Peters said in a release Friday. "Playing hockey in the NHL was the ultimate accomplishment for me and I want to thank my teammates, coaches, fans, and the media for helping make it a special experience."

The 31-year-old played in 229 NHL games for Buffalo and New Jersey, and served as a union-player rep and player representative on the NHL Players' Association's executive board.

huh... he never did play a game for the Nucks.
retiring saves us from a buy-out anyways.

I have never been much for taunting an opponent but that was pretty funny.:)
