Looks like Marlon Byrd has been traded to the Reds for RHP Ben Lively and cash. Cash? Really?

Actually the original report had the cash flow going the wrong direction. Philadelphis is going to pay part of Byrd's salary for Cincy not the other way around. Lively is a young (22) RHP who was 13-7 in the minors with an ERA of 3.07. Not exactly dashing.

The Phillies gave the Reds 4 Million dollars in cash and a signed photo of Amaro dressed as Santa Claus! The part about the cash is true!

Yeah, Lively was named the minor league player of the year for the Reds last season. I like the deal. I know there have been comments like "keep him til the trade deadline and he may be worth even more". That's crazy-the guy is 37 so who knows how good he's going to be this year, plus I've seen the last couple years how Amaro handles the trade deadline and I'm not impressed.

This is a good move for Ruben and the Phillies even with them paying 4 million.

Trading Byrd clearly means the FO will move the older players and trade Hamels. Hopefully, we'll see some good, young slugger prospect signings, if Amaro is up to the task.
