With new agreement, 1st buyout window will start prior 2 season opener. 2nd one remains in summer. Cap hit stays 4 rest of this season only

Although I would like the Flames to buy out Stajan, the dearth at center ice probably means he's safe.

Redden and Gomez will be bought out and become UFAs. Those aren't horrible options when they're getting paid league minimum.

Regardless of salary, is Redden still capable of playing at the NHL level? I honestly have no idea where he is at right now. I'd like the Devils to give Gomez a tryout if he does in fact get bought out.

theyll get more than the minimum

its like listing your house for sale at a low price ... it'll generate a bidding war ... even if your house is a pile of junk

The Isles have picked up 2 D on waivers in the past two days. I imagine Redden might interest them. At the very least he can play in the AHL.

sorry Redden and Gomez ... see you next season (if ever again)

My understanding is that players bought out before Saturday will be paid in full, not 2/3

Unless Mason comes into camp a completely new player and blows the doors off the joint with stellar play and great attitude, he's gone.

And if he DOES come in and totally impress everyone, he's still gone. But hopefully in a trade for a pick and Zamboni driver to be named later.

Gomez, at a good price, might be worth a look but only for a depth position. He might be pissed off enough to be moderately effective.

Redden, however, is just done. Mentally, physically, in every way... done.

Why would a team buy someone out? No money savings, no cap savings and they team that gets him could knock you out of the playoffs. Better to hold on to the guy and try to do a trade at the deadline for anything then pay someone to hurt your team

It does eliminate a contract off the books, though, and if you're close to the 50 contract limit, that is significant.

i think what it boils down to is being able to take the entire cap hit NOW with the ceiling being 70.2 mill versus taking the cap hit starting next year when as a gm youll be using a lower 64.3 mill cap ceiling ... more room now

don't be shocked to see redden playing for the red wings in the near future. this kind of signing is right up Holland's ally and the wings need defensman

I think Holland is actually smart. Redden's been done for some time now.

It won't happen but I am wondering if there have been discussions about buying out Leino.
