If i was a team that was planning on making the playoffs i would sign Danny B in heartbeat just for his playoff performance.

That's my point you'd think someone would be asking for him in a trade right now why risk waiting for FA and overbidding. Could be a win/win for all parties especially the Flyers.

Here is Sammy C's blog from Philly.com on another possible target after Briere is gone. We've discussed this a few times.
Could Brad Richards replace Danny Briere?

I think we could see quite a few scenarios such as this happening. It's not like DB or Richards are crap they just have high cap hits and have had a few bumps in the road. They'll both go somewhere and could easily perform well. Richards probably has a little more in him just due to age and could do well in Philly.

If they don't absolutely need to I think they'd be smart to hang onto Bryz for one more year. Find out more about Mason and make a more educated decision next year. Plus there may be more better options out there next year than this year to spend those funds on.

They probably have, but Briere doesn't have any real reason to accept any trade offer. He's only getting 2 million in actual pay the next two years, but his cap hit is way higher. Why not take the money from the buyout, then sign with whatever team you want for more money and less cap hit (and fewer
lost assets for your new team)?

I'm gonna miss DB especially around playoff time but in reality we missed the playoffs with him this year and something had to be done to shed salary. Hopefully it turns out well for us in the end.

Does anyone think that Gagne will be back? I'd love to see him finish his career in Philly, but w the few holes we have to fill and lack of cap space, not sure if the Flyers can squeeze him in?

i would love it if they resigned gagne. he's my all-time favorite player, plus i think he's so versatile he'd be great for the flyers to have.. plus a little veteran leadership is always appreciated

Forgive my ignorance of the local geography, but if Briere wants to keep his current house (as the media is reporting he wanted to stay), would it not make sense for him to sign with the devils, isles or rangers? (I'm assuming Pitt has no cap room).

Im not sure of his exact location of his house but i would assume that NJ would be closest to his current home. In reality NJ NY Li are pretty close to each other where i wouldnt think playing for any of them his housing situation wouldnt come into play. NJ is closest to Philly.

Bernier to the leafs for scrivens, frattin, and a 2nd round pick. Glad the flyers didn't try to top that. That's a pretty sizeable return.

I have a friend in the Flyers org. who said this yesterday. Also that Bryz would be the 2nd buyout.

Why? Everyone else that goes there ends up with a dying Career.:suds:

I wish nothing for the best for DB and i cant wish anything but bad feeling towards all Rags and Rags fans if he was on that team i would have to hate him.

All good things must come to an end look at jagr 0 goals in playoffs. Flyers were right to let him go.

I don't know that "Ha we were right to let him go because he didn't score any playoff goals on his run to the finals" is really the best perspective in this situation, F3.

Concur. Jagr was fun for a year, but I'm not sure he can keep up anymore when things get really intense (ie 3rd round playoffs and beyond). Would rather see a younger player take that spot; if that guy gets 0 points, you can at least say he gained experience for coming years.

Seems like an odd move for the Leafs; James Reimer is not going to be a happy camper (read: dressing room distraction) if he's not the starter, and same goes for Bernier. Everyone assumed the Leafs were looking for a veteran back-up, not a new potential starter. Doesn't make sense... unless they plan on moving Reimer as well... highly doubt that....

ya.. seems like a pretty foolish move by the leafs.. though, it would be similarly as foolish if the flyers did it IMO.. they have the 'young project with potential to be a high quality starter' in mason, same as the leafs have it in reimer.

backstrom resigning in minny disappointed me. i thought he wouldve been a good fit.
