What will special teams be like when Drew Brown leaves?

When Demornay Pierson El leaves?

Tre Bryant, gets Nebraska back to the 20 on kickoffs sort of, if lucky past the 25. Never past the 30.

Caleb Lightbourne, last in the NCAA in net punting.

Jordan Ober is good. The only bright spot on Bruce read recruits.

2018 could be pretty ugly on Special Teams.

I felt like our kick coverage was really good yesterday.

Haven't looked at the stat line at all, but it seemed to be really good.

Special teams is less about your specialists and more about team depth. Obviously if your kicker/punter sucks, you will look bad. However, having backup players that are studs will make our special teams much better. Our depth is terrible right now.

And the staff has shown willingness to go out and get good specialists (Caleb Lightbourn was one of the top ranked punters) and we are recruiting/have recruited (hello Spielman) dynamic players who will be solid return guys.

I agree about Spielman.

I wanted Spielman and Derrion Grimm to return kicks.

Grimm leaves and Spielman shattered his kneecap or whatever in Lacrosse and he redshirted, although I think he is doing well on scout team.

I think Read is making Lightbourn kick high and Lightbourn is not allowed to kick it far.

At worst, that is all I can complain about this year is last in net punting. if you don't punt then it doesn't matter.

He's also a true freshman that was not expected to play. Foltz had some iffy games his first year of playing as well.

yea, agree with oak, some of it is depth.

but that punt block or a safety isn't about depth. that was some bad coaching. player should have recognized the 4 guys coming straight up the middle and moved some guys around. also the 3 guys right in front of Caleb didn't step right, they need to step together and keep the guys coming up the middle and hope Caleb gets it off before the outside gets there, instead the one guy steps out leaving the middle guy trying to block 2 and whiffs on both.

punt return blocking has been piss poor as well. not to mention the lack of even attempting to block one.

Wonder how many teams have ever had an illegal substitution on a PAT

4 blocking 5 on a punt out of your own endzone...

No excuse for that. Should have been in max protect.

I just watched the game again. Injuries played a huge role in how the game played out, particularly on the line. Many plays, Nick Gates just couldn't move how and where he had to. On a few plays, that were buried behind the LOS, he could be seen watching the play as 2 defenders went right by him.
Losing Knevel on the first play didn't help matters either.

I hope this week allows for a lot more healing.
