Sounds like another one of those convenient injuries that lets Cueto back onto the roster and making ready for Marshall.
Broxton's problem is he can't get anybody out.
He got 'em out fine last year. At the end of the season his fastball was occasionally touching 98. This year he throws 89-91 mph cutters and shakes his arm alot between pitches. Not the same guy at all.
He's sore, or hurt. Still didn't matter, The pen is toast. Should have left some one else in to lose before the entire staff was ambulatory. Chapman will pitch the next 4 in a row.. Unless we see 3 call ups tomorrow.
The most dominant pitcher in the NL is warming up while the batting order comes up and down, up and down, striking out 2 out of 3 ... and we keep hoping for ... dunno, something.
I can't wait to see Duke and his 8 something era with 39 base runners in 20 and 2/3's innings He's definitely going to be the answer to all the bullpen problems.
Didn't the Reds already have this guy in the minors once? or maybe he was invited to spring training.
Duke would maybe be an emergency callup to keep from burning an option on one of the younger pitchers. As a lefty, he's as good as Manny Meltdown but not much else.
Let's hope the Reds don't tie the big-league record for having the most guys on the team named "Zach."
No more confusion ... other than the corresponding move.
Not sure whatever happened to Logan Ondrusek.
Broxton on the DL
Reds setup man Jonathan Broxton has been placed on the 15-day disabled, retroactive to Friday, with a right elbow flexor mass strain, the club announced Saturday. As a corresponding move, right-hander Pedro Villarreal has been recalled from Triple-A Louisville.
Broxton, 28, was used in emergency Thursday against the Cubs in the 14th inning -- despite the availability of closer Aroldis Chapman -- and took the loss. He had been dealing with elbow soreness prior to the outing and had the issue examined upon the Reds' return to Cincinnati.
Great news! Well, not that Broxton is injured (I don't wish injury on anyone), but that I don't have to watch him waddle his fat arse out there again only to disappoint. Madson, 8-9million...bust. Broxton, 21 million...bust so far (typical of our luck). I do not wanna hear that this could of been his issue all along because he has been pitching like crap for quite some time. And if it has been going on that long (including much of last year especially near the end) why not address the issue and get it resolved back then? Why sign him to the big deal? He seems to be anti-clutch and this just doesn't make sense to me....
On the upside, maybe Cingrani can solidify a spot on this pitching staff somewhere now given all these injuries & poor pitching. The kid has done us proper to this point and I believe, has earned his position somewhere. He will only make the Reds better.
Additional upside.....it appears Marshall should be back soon and Masset could be back soon as well. Hopefully that will help because our pitching staff is crash'n & burn'n at the moment.
Sorry for the bit of venting there folks, but given what I have seen from Broxton since he became a Red (and before), I am simply not impressed. And he has certainly NOT justified prior to or after....that 21 million deal from the Reds. More poor spending that may come back to haunt us.
Partch has closer kind of stuff. No reason why we shouldn't get him a couple more outings and move him to the set up guy. Quite frankly, this is our best option right now.
