He is 31 and in the last year of his deal that is worth 1.5 million this year.

Clearly feel no ILB n day 3 can help us more then Watson. He played well in a backup and special teams role here in 2016. Elway couldn't get enough of him.

Stop gapping ILB until next year.

Josey Jewell wins!

Must have a lot of confidence in Josey. I do too, but he can't do it all himself.

I'm not a fan of this move but Elway/Fangio know better than I how Watson stacks up against the remaining talent in the draft. Maybe ILB will be where the Broncos strike UDFA gold this year.

Drew Lewis - is that answer to that question. He is a little undersized, but the Buffs screwed up his career by using him in multiple positions.

The Broncos get the 9er's 6th round pick - and Dekoda Watson - for their 1st pick in the 5th. A little better deal with the 6th rounder included.

Yeah really just depends who we get with the 6th if I am happy or not. We get someone I like and Ill feel like Watson is a bonus. We get someone I don't like and Ill feel like we threw away quality players in the 5th for this trade.

Why?

Davis while I have never been a big fan will be the ILB we depend on the most this year.

I like Jewel better then Davis, and feel Jewel is better in coverage than Davis. This maybe an inaccurate impression I have though.

Neither is really good in coverage.

I think we all have high hopes for Jewell.

Just saying why is Todd Davis in trouble? He is the only ILB on the roster that is set in stone to start, IMO.

Josie Jewell is plenty good in coverage if he is patrolling a zone - last year - he had downfield man to man responsibility and got beat like a drum. He has amazing reflexes and reaction times to go with good football instincts.

Part of being good coverage is playing well in man to man.

I watched Jewell for 4 years at Iowa and loved him as much as anyone we took him, but NFL coverage skills are a concern, other then that he is a fantastic player.

When I say he isn't good in coverage, he isn't good in man to man coverage. Needs to work on that.

If we can find him a role where we don't expose him in man to man he can be fantastic for us.

He is a tackle machine.

What I'm saying is that the Broncos had him in some ridiculous matchups against speedy scatbacks and WRs 30 yards downfield with no help - that's just silly for any lb. Fangio plays zone - most of the time.

I can agree with that... We relied on him a bit too much in coverage with Marshall hurt. Really didnt have anything else to throw out there in coverage though with no other depth at the ILB position.

Will be a big camp for Johnson. Last year we were patient because the talent is there.

Still have Bierria who we drafted last year too and Joe Jones (our best special teams player) who seemed to be the next guy after Jewell last year.

We won't be fancy at ILB, but we have some bodies there and upside with Jewell and Johnson. Watson is a stop gap depth guy who can start if needed and contribute on special teams. Not a bad guy to add to the mix with experience.

I was hoping that as the season wore on last year we would have seen Johnson in game action. If I remember right he received praise during training camp, and made a big hit on a kick coverage in the pre-season. He must not have progressed at the rate the Broncos wanted to give him an opportunity at game action.

It would be a huge find if he is able to become a player for the Broncos.

I believe he did get in a few games late in the year and made some plays.
