I liked Rahim. I thought he gave his all for this team and handled one of the worst mistakes in Bronco history with class. I agree though the Contract just made no sense for the Broncos to try and keep him. Elway has done very well at saying "this is your value and we won't go above it." It has meant letting go of some decent players. I look at the replacements though for guys this past year...
Orlando Franklin--Struggling in San Diego making $7.3 million...Broncos bring in Mathis who is making $3.25 million this year and is quickly looking like his old Pro Bowl self
Rahim Moore--Obviously benched making $4 million this year...Broncos bring in Darian Stewart who is making $2.13 million and is playing very well for us
Terrance Knighton--Not sure how he is doing honestly but making $4.45 million...Broncos are using their 1st round pick Sly Williams having a career year at $1.9 million
Julius Thomas--Hardly played with injuries making $9.2 million a year...Broncos now have Vernon Davis at $2.5 million. Have to see how he does.
All that to show that while some of these guys were hard to see let go Elway does seem to have a plan of how to replace all of these guys and still get great production from their replacements.
You know Derek Wolfe had a good game when I praise him.
I thought it was the best game I had ever seen Wolfe play as a Bronco. I still think our secondary was our MVP of the game. There were many times when they covered 5-10 seconds and Rodgers still had to throw it away.
Great day for Wolfe. I was hoping the fit of the 3-4 would be much better for him. So far much better.
I had my doubts about Sly in the offseason, he has looked fantastic in Wade's system.Yeah I remember when we drafted in 2011-2012 just thinking "We have really been drafting guys that are a better fit in the 3-4 defense." So far that seems to be holding true. Malik, Sly, and Wolfe look like they could all have career years. Heck even Trevathan and Marshall look much more comfortable in this 3-4 defense. They were the ones I worried about not really fitting the system with just being a hair small for the spot on the inside.
Just to show how good this run defense has been...The Broncos have allowed only 16 runs all year of 10 yards or longer. 6 of those are by QB's that escaped the pocket and took off. Even with how aggressive our defense has been they have been very disciplined at the same time. Man I hope Elway finds a way to bring most of these guys back next year.
