My guess is starters play the 1st half in this one. This is our one true road game in the preseason to get ready for the season (game 4 doesn't count since no starters play). Manning will want to take advantage of that.
Starters most likely sitting out this game: Harris, Ball, Trevathan, Sanders, Vickerson (not sure he is actually a starter but still a contributor), Webster (twisted his ankle at practice yesterday), and maybe Miller (he is a game time decision which is very good news that he is ahead of schedule to play already!).
Players at least for me that I will be focused on...
1) Probably player that will be watched and scrutinized most in this game will be Brandon Marshall as he works to replace Trevathan at least for the first month of the season.
2) Along that same lines Lamin Barrow. He is 2nd in line to take the starting job. A good game could go a long way in him getting a hard look at the starting spot.
3) Bradley Roby--The kid is expected to start opposite Talib in this game with Harris still rehabbing and Webster out with an ankle sprain (not serious by the way). Trial by fire here.
4) Cody Latimer--He was a highlight real in camp all year. Preseason game 1 though he was pretty nonexistent. Hoping to see if he can step up in this one with Sanders most likely out.
5) Nate Irving--This kid showed me something in the first preseason game. Can he continue to show that he deserves that starting spot at MLB for the Broncos.
Those are my top-5 for this upcoming game. Obviously have many more I am excited to watch but those 5 stand a very good chance to contribute big time this season not just in this upcoming game.
Very excited to have Bronco football finally back! Win or lose (don't really care since it is preseason) it will be good to see the guys out on the field. Also will be interested to see if we see the flag fest like we saw in the first game.
I will add Juan Thompson to the list of players worth watching. Is he closer to the next Terrell Davis or the next Jeremiah Johnson? Hope he gets some snaps with the first unit.
I'm looking forward to seeing how well we run the ball today, and also how well our LBs play. Those have both been weaknesses for us, and we're already starting out with injuries to our RBs and LBs. The next men up will need to step up and fill in for already thin positions.
First and foremost, the only thing I care about is the Broncos suffer no injuries in this game. Secondly I am content with the vanilla play calling on the first team offense and defense because these two teams will see each other again in just a few short weeks.
As of the 2:00 in the first half, this game has been a snoozer, just the way a preseason game should be. Bethea from the Niners went down and hasn't returned, so I hope he is all right.
As for the LB play, they have looked good stopping the run so far. However, they, along with the DBs, got a little lucky that Kaep and Gabbert were a little off on some of their throws. Overall, the D has looked good.
Our O-line so far looks a lot like they did last season: great in pass protection and mediocre, at best, in opening holes for the RBs. Of course, they are up against an outstanding D-line, so one can't expect too much. Hillman and CJ Anderson have done a good job of gaining yards anyway.
