I totally agree, Doc. Oz proved to be at least a mediocre, and potentially a very good QB during his 7-game starting stretch. And we basically groomed him for 3 years for another team to reap the benefits of his maturation. We did all of the work for them, and now the Texans are going to find out how good he can become.

I think he'll do well, and I wish him luck, but $18M is a lot for a player who hasn't started a full season. I'm sure we will all be keeping tabs on how he does next season and in the rest of his career.

Quite frankly, that's what is the worst part about him. I know all of us the past 3 offseasons had heard how each training camp he was just getting better and better. Plus he got to suck Manning's brain dry for 3 seasons, and you can't put a price on that. You really can't.

I do think $18 mil per is too damn much, and honestly if there was even the slightest bit of resentment from him getting benched, and he was holding on to that even though we vehemently told him that it was his team going forward, then just go if you're gonna be holding onto that. We did what we had to do at the time to get the game won, and ultimately what did it get us? A ring.

My biggest question with Osweiler is can he stay healthy, especially after seeing him get blasted quite a bit last year. Hope he stays healthy and whatnot, but I can't say I'm dying to see him succeed in Houston.

Yeah too much is dependent on what you have to spend though. Spending $50k on a car is too much if you are working at McDonalds, not if you are running Apple.

18 mil a year leaves Denver with zero cap space and just 49 players under contract, but leaves Houston with 19 mil and 60 guys under contract. Watching Hou the past couple years, it makes great sense, got the best QB available for a team that truly feels it is just a QB away from being a real contender. No real downside, the cap hit won't cripple them in this year or next, and they are only on the hook for that long. It may hurt in year 3 when guys start coming due, but they are only paying that if it's working out for them. At worst they are back where they started.

Waking up today and facing a new reality was weird. This team is going to look way different next year.

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. Do you take $8M less a year to stay with a team that sidelined you after you got them to the playoffs or sign with a team for $18M where you "know" you the number one guy.

Oz has a ring and a $72M future to look forward to. My gut tells me that him signing with the Texans has multiple messages for the Broncos. They are his messages and none of them complimentary.

Every team faces the same thing. Every team has players looking for a big paycheck or to just move "somewhere else" where they feel more appreciated. The appreciation starts with a bigger paycheck and usually an upfront bonus check. Good luck Oz, hope the Texans can find you a couple of Wide Receivers like DT and ES who are willing to take a shot to help you out. Hope they can find a running back who offers a bit of a challenge to the defenses you face. Otherwise, those paychecks will be earned with a great deal of pain.

You need to check your info better. The Broncos started at $13 MM a year for three years and reportedly moved up to offering $16 MM.

I know, I was exaggerating a bit for effect. No offense intended. Everyone knows that Elway didn't short sheet him. My opinion is that Oz was just pissed and wanted to pay back a couple of people for sidelining him during the playoffs.

If that's really the case, he has no place being a Bronco. Me first attitudes don't win Super Bowls.

The problem was Oz didn't grab the reins and become the team leader in the San Diego game. Some people thought that it was unfair he was benched after an Anderson fumble, and while that is harsh, I don't think it's unfair. The Broncos offense was in a complete funk that day, and it's up to the quarterback to rally the offense and pull them through it. Brock didn't do that, and that's why he was benched.

So when you combine that with apparently his bad attitude about it, and I think it's best for the Broncos that he's gone. Here was a guy that was groomed to be the successor, and was instrumental in helping the Broncos win a Super Bowl, and he was upset to the point of not wanting to come back because the Broncos switched him out for the retiring qb? I can understand being pissed off if it didn't work, but the Broncos rallied to win that game, and they went on to win the Super Bowl! That's a learning opportunity for Brock and a chance for him to become better, but it seems like instead he took it personally and decided to split.

So good luck to you, Brock, but I think the Broncos are better off without you.

This is a good read to understand the whole situation...

The truth about Brock Osweiler and the reason he left the Broncos

If this is true (and I have seen this verified by others) then it is probably good for both parties that they parted ways.

If you don't want to read the article here are the highlights...

1) Brock was furious about his benching. One teammate commented yesterday that they all could tell Osweiler was not the same after he was benched. Yes he put on a brave face but he still was not happy.

2) He never made the coaches believe in that 7 game stretch that he really could lead this team. He had a chance to lead and he just didn't take the reins.

3) Osweiler's agent told Osweiler's wife "Don't worry, we're gonna get him out of here."

4) This isn't in the article but heard from a few now that Osweiler just wanted a new start and didn't really want to be in the shadow of Manning. Staying in Denver would have been a lot more added pressure to succeed.

Well they sure as hell had me going the past 10 days. I was 90% sure he'd sign Denver's deal, but after hearing all the gory details, I guess it's obvious why he didn't. Like you said cd.....probably best to just part ways. Sure saves us a ton of money. Wish we could've used some to keep Trev around, but now we gotta get out there and make moves. I think getting CJ back should be a priority now for sure. He fits our scheme, tough as nails and loves being in Denver. Hopefully Miami doesn't throw a ton at him.

Yeah when I heard that he hadn't returned the calls of the FO or his own teammates that really rubbed me the wrong way. Just sounds like he had already made up his mind even if we offered as much as Houston that he was out of here. Which hey don't blame him as it is hard to follow a legend. I just wish he handled his leaving Denver a little better.

Really to me FA really begins next week. THis first week yes all the big name guys get the huge contracts and I think we all knew other than maybe Brock we were not going to be a part of that. The next wave of FA though is where you find those undervalued guys and ones that you don't have to ridiculously overpay for their services. Elway has really shined in this period. Emmanuel Sanders, Darian Stewart, Ryan Harris, Owen Daniels, and others. Can't wait to see all that he does. I do think they will for the most part stay away from bringing anybody in defensively. From what I understand the coaches are really high on Todd Davis, Kenny Anunike, Darius Kilgo, and seeing what they can add in the draft. They also really like the defensive coaches getting the most out of these guys. I mean we saw the progression of Sly, Malik, and Wolfe this year going from ok players, to good players, to pay that man players. Same with our Linebackers in seeing Marshall go from practice squad to should have been in the Pro Bowl.

All understandable reasons all around. I think the Broncos made the right decision - Brock shows a character flaw in letting this drive his career - it is an immature - big ego response. He kept it inside - that's praiseworthy. Brock also made the right decision -based on money - why shouldn't he take it? From my vantage point - the Houston portion of his career if pretty iffy for success. Brock is also brittle (though tough).

During Brock's rookie year I took my then 10 year old grandson to camp. Brock signed an autograph for Bryce while I stood off to the side. He appeared to be a snob, even with a 10 year old. Like he was disgusted he had to lower himself to such a petty exercise. Meanwhile Peyton, in a different part of the field, stayed until every autograph was signed laughing and making jokes with the fans.

Not the end of the world, but Brock made a poor impression. I hope the last 4 years being around Peyton, he matured in some areas.

Get what your saying. I think you should always give someone the time of day, especially a child. He did admit however he learned a lot from Peyton and other teammates on how to be a professional on and off the field during his time in Denver. Growing up I suppose.

Not impressed with his agent. The whole telling him not to talk to the team or his teammates was ridiculous. Bad business. Many of these guys are people he spent the past 4 years of his life with. Throw in this is the organization that gave him his shot at the NFL so to show such disrespect at least to me is not what I would do as an agent. That is a quick way to burn some major bridges.
