Denver first offer to Brock was the last day of the combine a week before the FA tampering period began.
Never during the season did they attempt to sign Brock long term. Not after winning NE, not after winning Cincy, not even after SD when they could have showed him they wanted him to be the long term answer.
At that point, he wanted to move on and got a better offer that he didn't even want Denver to match.
Elway had plenty of time to make Brock feel welcome and part of Denver's future.

I agree with this - I think Oz was purp walked out of town - in a very sly way.

Let me counter with this:

Sly as in $30MM gauenteed? why up their offer days prior to FA from $13MM to $16MM?. Seems like an awful lot of money to make a statement about not wanting someone. I'm not convinced Denver doesn't match HOU's offer but at that point Brock wanted to move on. This was why Elway made the statement about not wanting to be here. He was pissed .

To me , it's becoming more and more obvious Brock was their QB and Elway misplayed this.

Yeah. To say Oz was purposely run out of town on the sly is funny. Pretty sure Elway was counting on Oz to want to be a Bronco and the price tag was going to be workable. I think he underestimated the "butt hurt" Oz took with the benching and it festered from there. Not hard to see that Elways plan B looks a tad unscripted so far.

Elway and co thought sexton was going to use other teams to drive the price up on Denver when in reality he turned the tables and used Denver to drive the price up on Houston
Once they got Houston where they were comfortable , they told elway to pound sand we are going to Houston. It's starting to come out a little at a time.
Can elway make chicken salad out of chicken shit we shall see
Getting kapernick would be a great start in my book
Hopefully elway gets to counter any other offers for Kap

I am reading this the other way

Bronco players and those around him have come out and said that Osweiler was upset at the benching - not only during that game, but he carried it with him ..

And John Elway was obviously aware of this, that is for sure ..

Osweiler's displeasure was most likely not limited to a frown in the locker room or on the team bus .. Kubiak, Elway, etc know exactly what is going on, both in terms of the vibe of the team and in terms of what a player has to offer, both on the field and off ..

Elway has seen Osweiler for 4 years, and knows what his strengths and weaknesses are ..

I think Elway knew exactly what the story was, and how he wanted to go down ... The Bronco offer was merely a PR move knowing fully well that Osweiler's panties were in a rift and he was going to Houston regardless ..

This is classic Elway, just like the way he moved Dumervil out the door, just like the "He's no Jimmy Graham" comment about Julius Thomas

If a guy is going to do something that risks the chemistry to a Super Bowl run - and apparently, while he hid it from the media, players and those within the organization felt Osweiler was miffed ...

"Osweiler, I told you not to fuck with me ... You wanna pout, you wanna throw passes in the NFL ?? .. See you in Houston you f@cking soft giraffe"

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. Elway had his reasons for not overpaying Osweiler. I'm thinking the last few weeks showed a lack of leadership that Elway didn't like. The failure to get the team up against the Chargers with everything on the line, and then pouting about being benched for a HOF QB while riding the team to a Super Bowl victory probably didn't sit well, and is why Elway went on record to say this wouldn't be Oz's big contract. The initial offer was refused, telling them Oz wanted the money more than the team. Oz took advantage of the situation and found a team willing to pay dearly. In the meantime Oz was burning the bridges while waiting to become a FA at the advice of Sexton. In the end, Elway may have simply been bidding up Houston. Oz was the preferred choice, but Elway didn't want to break the bank for Oz either. He probably went a little higher than he originally wanted, but not higher than he was comfortable paying.

Meanwhile, I certainly hope Osweiler has a stout O-line in front of him. I have a feeling Miller, Ware, and company will want to tee off on him.

At the time when Osweiler was benched, I said that I feared that the benching pissed him off and would cause him to go elsewhere. It's pretty clear that's what happened. He had to wait longer than most QBs because Manning played to an old age, and then when he finally got his chance he got benched despite playing pretty well for a rookie. You can't really blame him for being pissed. BUT it was the right move to go back to Manning. Even though he didn't do much in the playoffs, we got a championship out of it. Can't say with certainty that it would have happened with Osweiler because he could have made to some killer rookie mistakes. Manning managed the games well so that the defense could win it. I think Brock has a bright future but this is what happened and we have to move on!

You are probably the only Bronco fan to think that Elway is done as far as acquiring a QB

But he wasn't a rookie. He had 4 years in this league when he came in. Yes there were going to be some mistakes because he hadn't gotten as much live action but I think the coaches saw that he was losing it when things were not going just right. Just go back and listen to Kubiak during half time of the Chargers game. He put a challenge before Oz to go and take his spot as leader of this team and well that failed miserably. From what I understand right after the Anderson fumble Osweiler went over and started cussing out one of the coaches and started having a bit of a pitty party on the sideline. Kubiak did not like what he saw from his starting QB and decided that was the time to put in Manning.
