I remember the first time I watched a Samuel L Jackson movie when my parents were over for a weekend.

His first F Bomb, my god fearing mother winced noticeably.

By the halfway point she was reacting to it no more than she did to the word the or it.

...and? That's not a derogatory word for a race of people.

I'm in favor of a name change... to the Washington Niggards.

...Every ignorant PC activist's head would explode, gloriously ridding the world of massive quantities of human trash...

No reason for them to still be called the Redskins. Public pressure or not, it's a deplorable choice of team name. It's a derogatory name for American Indians, and as such should not be used.

If the Giants were actually called the Guineas, there might be some problems you think?

As an Italian I prefer The New York W.O.P.'s. It's a nice tie in with Ellis Island in the state.

What? Where exactly is all of this public pressure that you are referencing? Most people either like the name or don't care & that appears to include the majority of Native Americans. I have yet to hear about other owners being concerned about this - they are more concerned about things like lawsuits related to head injuries.

The Redskins may be forced to change the name, but I am pretty certain that it won't occur during Snyder's lifetime. The only place where this is major news are TMZ type sports outlets (e.g. ESPN) that hype up this type of topic to fuel their stupid talk shows.

The majority of Native America's have an issue with the name. I believe it's the logo that native American's like or at least have no issue with. The logo of the Cleveland Indians is the one I hear complaints about.

Could keep everything the same (logo, colors) and just call the team the Washington Warriors, a name that isn't derogatory at all.

Chief Wahoo is a terrible logo.

There are protests here in MN every time the Redskins come to play. There was a bill introduced in Congress to strip the NFL of it's antitrust exemption just at the start of last season (didn't go anywhere but still it was introduced). The simple fact is that there are a lot of people who think the term is racist.

I personally don't care about the name. I would prefer they keep it in fact.

I'm just saying eventually it is going to need to be changed and it will be sooner rather than later. In fact IMO by the time Kurt Cousins plays his last game for the Washington team, they will be called something else.

The world is just too PC for Washington to keep the name for much longer IMO. It's just a headache that the owners won't want at some point. Like I said, all it is going to take is for one large sponsor to get on board with the idea and it will be over. If the head of Gatorade took the stance that the redskins need the name change tomorrow, the Redskins name would be gone by the end of next season.

That's just the way these things work. They bubble slowly for a few years until all of a sudden it reaches full boil. And this thing has been bubbling for the last couple of years to the point where I can't imagine it not reaching the boiling point sooner rather than later.

Dan Snyder has no fucks to give to congress, England or anyone else

There might just be a problem in the tri-city area though.

Of course there would. It's too cold up here for growing cotton so the name would be silly for a northern team.

Defuse the issue completely. Keep the name, change the logo and mascot.

I personally could not care less about a name and I'm part native.

I'm more pissed that the Brits think that they have any say in this. I simply tell them that they need to STFU and will take what they are given and not complain.

Sorry if there are any Brits in here, but I've been against games in London from the start.

Snyder should just give up this battle and change the name.

At some point all the owners are going to force him to anyways with all the public pressure that they will receive. Eventually there will be a big enough sponsor that is going to jump on the bandwagon and say change it or no $$$ and Washington will be forced to give in.

I would support this view, but he has three things he's competing with: 1) Being able to do what he wants or give into pressure. 2) He's already stated he will never change it, doing so would go against that. 3) Dealing with all the obnoxious people who wouldn't tell him he did good to change it but instead, "see, I told you, and you admitted your mistake, and you should have done it sooner and pay reparations for not doing it."

A lot of people don't do "right" because of what they know happens once they "fix" it. I use quotes because I'm only calling it "right" and a "fix" for argument's sake. Don't really know or care, one way or another, to be honest. There's only a certain amount of injury I can claim to something that happened to people before me that I can feel. Not saying that it's an illegitimate feeling, I just can't feel for all those people. I choose what I care about and what I don't and don't expect people to take up my cross.
